That Crucial Part of the Day

It's 5:36pm where I live right now, and I want a nap. However, I know if I take one it will keep me from falling asleep tonight. It's always around 5pm when I get draggy, and just try to hang on until bedtime. I'm not sleepy all of the time, just tired. How do you guys pep yourselves up when you hit a wall during the day? It makes me think of the commercials for 5 Hour Energy, which I do not want to try.

Sometimes a little fresh air, sunshine if available. A shower wakes me up. Something crunchy but low carb like celery or carrots is good. The crunch seems to wake me up. Or mint flavored chewing gum to chew.

My dad used to chew ice to stay awake. I never understood how he could do that without it giving him the shivers.

@AmbiePam Maybe it giving him the shivers is what kept him awake?

If I am really tired and I don't want to go to sleep I will have a shower. That will usually wake me up.

Too bad I didn't save that until later. I showered around 3pm this afternoon. Good idea.

I hate to admit a snack to wake me up. Its a low calorie one, as I'm trying to lose some weight now. I haven't drank one of the 5 hour energy drinks, as not sure about the side affects.

This time of the year is the worst for wanting to nap, isn't it? I took a nap the day before yesterday, it was around 1 o'clock in the morning. It didn't keep me from going to sleep at 7 am per usual though, but that's mostly because I was restless during the nap. The worst is trying to get some sleep at a time when you aren't used to sleeping. When I spend a night with a friend? I have to sleep at night as most of our activities are during the day, when I am usually asleep. Makes for an even more interesting night of work (as i usually end up working the following night after being awake the entire day).

I guess you just need sleep whenever you can get it.

Movement and a nice cool glass of water helps me a bit.

I do drink energy drinks.. not so much for the energy but for the taste. If I don't have the drink though I have no energy what so ever!

I usually just have a cup of coffee and that does the trick.

A nap comes to mind! Not one to use any artificial anything, so often have to just tough it out.

If I'm that tired, I usually take a short nap. 20 minutes to an hour. I still fall asleep quickly at night.

Good idea. I've heard some bad things about 5 Hour Energy. I hit a wall as well at some point in the day, but it can happen at any time, sometimes as early as just after getting up. Then I just go back to bed. Then it can also happen just before bedtime like you, right around supper time. I look for something to eat, or I play a game to get my mind occupied with something other than taking a nap.

I'd probably take a nap and just hope I could sleep at night - or I might stay up later.
