The Perfect Example Of Youth

Good morning all I do hope everyone had a most wonderful Thanksgiving. I had my family here and we had a very nice time. At 11 pm last night my son had to go to work until 6 am this morning. What awful hours but he is now home and in bed for the day. Back from when I was young I have a clear memory that will never leave me of an old woman shuffling along very slowly and carefully across a patch of ice on the way to her car. I immediately thought why is she walking like that, it's not that slippery ( even though it was ). Why is she so scared to walk across the ice it's no big deal. And I proceeded to walk across the ice like it was a sunny warm dry day in summer. I was like 19 at the time. That image and memory has stuck with me all these years. That was my perfect example of youth back then. Now that I am much much older my image of the perfect example of youth has changed dramatically. Last night as my son was getting ready to go to work he did something that struck me and is nearly impossible for me to do, as the perfect example of youth. My husband and I were sitting on the couch watching tv and my son was talking to us. He stood in front of us and put on his socks, standing. LOL, I thought how amazing is that as I would have fallen flat on my behind. So for me that is currently the Perfect Example Of Youth. What's your perfect example of youth, I'm sure some of you have some examples.

Well, for the moment I can still put on my socks standing, but I cannot jump anymore the fence, I need to open the gate, I fear too much to fall. People jumping over their gates is the perfect example of youth.

Yes jumping a fence is the perfect example of youth. I couldn't do that even in my youth as I am 4 foot 10 inches, mostly to short to jump any fence lol.

@fishtiger58 I am not tall, I am 5 foot 2 inches, but I was pretty good in jumping a fence when I was younger.

Those are great observations. I guess a perfect example of youth to me is standing up without groaning! Whereas my father is amazed I can touch my toes without bending my knees.

Wow I can't touch my toes like that. Yes the groaning, for me depends on what I am sitting on. I always groan when I'm getting up off the floor. So I tend to avoid that.

I don't know.. I'm still fairly young. There are things I can't do anymore that I used to... like stay up past 10pm and sleep in past 8am... or kick my foot up above my head.. or walk in 5 inch heels.. But I'm still fairly young...

@fishtiger58 I used to wear painfully high heels.. but that was like 15 years ago. I've also always been a night owl and prefer to sleep in..

I never could walk in heels. Ever since having kids I can't seem to stay in bed much past dawn. The are in their mid 20's now and still I get up early.

@katsmeow1213 I would get nose bleeds wearing heels that high, not to mention broken legs lol.

Yes, standing to put socks on, slacks on or any clothing is the perfect example of youth. I would be as you, flat on my backside if I attempted that. Another is being able to work swing shift. Young people can do so much more than us up in agers.

I put my slippers on different feet and very often confuse he sides of clothes, which i wear. But i guess it`s not the sign of youth, but more of my clumsiness

Yes, putting on my socks standing is becoming a challenge at 66 but I can still do it. Last week it was very icy and I had to carefully slide my feet on the ice and several times I almost fell. Life is becoming more difficult. Dancing non-stop and not being tired. I wish I could do that now but get tired very fast.

I have seen my 27-year-old does this as well. He is tall and lean and can manage these things. Other examples of his youth are staying up til 4 am and having to be at work at 7am. I remember when I could exist on a few hours of sleep but I am too old now.

@fishtiger58 Yes, I always remember that old adage, "youth is wasted on the young". I miss my younger days.

Boy, you hit that one right on top of the nail except I wooda fallen flat on my face and broken my nose OOOOWW The other thing is putting on those pull on boots, DAMN that was hard to do this morning. I get the feelin it's gonna get worse BUTT in the mean time, glad your Thanksgiving was nice and mine was as well. I need to find some kinda suspenders to use on my boots to make it easier to slip them on.

Ahhh you are so right about how different things are when you're young. I'm always amazed at how my daughter in law just squats down. If I tried that my knees would crumble & I'd fall on my butt. I also envy my grandchildren who run up & down the stairs

Yes indeed it was all done wrong. The kids just waste that energy when it's us oldies who really could put it to good use lol.

My 15 year old grandson has a 2nd degree Black Belt in karate and he also goes to the gym to lift weights. He is strong and agile and so coordinated. He is athletic and very handsome. He is also kind and thoughtful and helps me with many things. He is certainly a perfect example of youth to me.

I hear you, I avoid getting down on the floor if I can. I have very young great nieces who want me on the floor with them, of course they have no idea how hard it is to get up.
