I have done it!

A hike with a friend the other day led to a discussion of favorite breakfast cereals. That real-world discussion led to a post here on MyLot. In the comments, I vowed to get some Trix, my favorite childhood sugar bomb, and see how modern Trix tasted compared to the Trix of my childhood. This is my review. Review of 2016 Trix. By The Horse The box cost $4.50 at Safeway. It contains 10.7 oz of Trix. The silly rabbit is still on the front of the package, but he looks like he's done by a different cartoonist than the silly rabbit of my childhood. Trix are made from corn. My first worry came when I saw these three "bullets": * No high fructose corn syrup. * No colors from artificial sources * No artificial flavors. A fourth bullet came to mind: * No Horse likee. But I carried on. I put the milk in first, as I always do, and gradually added Trix, savoring the aroma, the crunch, and the flavor bouquet. The good news: the crunchy consistency of Trix has been maintained. Each bite yielded a satisfying crunch, and Trix did not turn into a soggy mess after a minute. The finish of eat bite was slightly "gooey," though. The bad news: The overall taste wasn't bad, but a certain flavor which I can only describe as "purple" was way too dominant. Where are the artificial flavors of my childhood days? Also, the trix did not color my milk in an aesthetically pleasing way. In fact, the milk stayed suspiciously white. The verdict: I will finish this box of Trix, but I will not buy another. A certain "je ne sais quoi" is missing from modern day Trix. I hope others will post reviews of their favorite childhood sugar bombs, such that I (and other MyLotters) can make informed decisions about which ones to try.

They stopped making my favourite cereal years ago, so now I stick with oatmeal, but I do miss Puffa Puffa Rice

Oh, Puffa Puffa Rice! That sounds familiar. I wonder if they had a different name for it here.

We have typical idlis, dosas, and such stuff, which are home made preparations. So I have no idea what trix is..or was in past. lol. Thanks for the French. :)

@TheHorse .. It is easier to learn this way than to study it ..you know...I think my English has improved after coming to myLot. :) I guess I will learn French as well ..though pronunciations will always be an issue..:)

Heh.I Just had some Trix for breakfast. They weren't that bad. I'm getting used to the "purple" flavor, so it isn't bothering me so much.

It was long ago that I last had Trix, so I really didn't notice a difference.

My memory for important things like that is very strong. I was traumatized when Coke experimented with "New Coke."

I refrained from tasting the cereals my kids ate growing up. Only cornflakes and Rice Krispies with fresh fruit were allowed in my house growing up, but oatmeal and Cream of Wheat is what we had to eat most days.

I actually like both oatmeal and cream of wheat, as long as there's lots of brown sugar around.

Trix are for kids silly rabbit.. ....that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the picture. I used to love Honeycomb.....last time I tried it, I thought it tasted like cardboard with a sugary coating. How disappointing.

I simply cannot stand foods that taste too purple. I don't know why they have to add so much of this stuff to foods.

Every time I try something I used to love when I was a kid I am deceived, as you say it is missing a certain "je ne sais pas quoi".
