New User Page Discussions

Oh Goodness me - while perusing through the New User Discussion page there were so many RULE BREAKING posts that should actually be audited by the hosts of this site, and obviously deleted or reprimanded! MyLot is a writing site, not a questioning site - with one liners asking "do you like the weather" (take note that I am using a hypothetical statement) Sadly many of the more serious ENGLISH writing people are being bombarded with the rubble of rumble and rebuttal found on this page, even repressing their keenness to write and respond. You may leave your thoughts in pen or should I say #keyboardbanter and I shall offer my thoughts in return! I am waiting!

We were all once new so I understand that.. but you'd think people explore and read FAQ or search on how the site works before creating a bunch of discussion posts! When I'm new to a site I like to refer to the FAQ or help.. and browse the site to get familiar with it.

@Inlemay That is it. A bit of sense and meaning and you get on board and enjoy the site.

I know we all were new once and I was embraced with wonderful response when I started, but then my posts (well I think) had sense and meaning

I regularly go to 'no responses' and 'new users' pages but it is becoming more and more rare to find anything that you can actually respond to.

I sometimes go to no responses as I find friends there that people have overlooked their posts

I stopped going there as much. I go to most recent discussions which should include new users, hopefully. It is so dismal to read through posts and not have any idea what they are talking about. Sometimes, I say something stupid like, "that's interesting," or some other nonsense just to answer them.

@Inlemay I do that too. Once I've been through discussions of those I'm following I start checking no responses and new users.

I've found maybe 9 out of 10 are a waste of time. Most just want a quick way to make a few cents. I have a theory about the one.

It would be interesting to know your theory - because as soon as we find out their ploy we can work on eliminating them

If I read the guidelines correctly this is a discussion site not a writing site. Mylot is by no means anything like Bubblews or Gather or Redgage. One liners are discouraged but if there are two lines then it's ok. The point here is to have discussions.

I think the guidelines state that oneliners are not acceptable but there are those here who actually do have discussions about rain @Inlemay sometimes people just want someone to relate to their feelings about weather problems, we all do things like that.

I agree - however the question asked is "do you like rain" would you feel that is enough to start a discussion?

I've noticed a lot of one liners lately and it's frustrating. It would be good if the site put a minimum word or character count on the site to eliminate that.

well the character count also posed as a problem with people doing the howwwwwwww areeeeeeee youuuuu todddddday kind of thing. Somehow I am sure it is monitored, just I got to walking into a room full of them yesterday

There are good reasons that some posts sit there day after day with no response at all.

It's frustrating because last year @myLotBugs posted about how beneficial it could be to interact on No Response and New User discussions. I can only assume that back then there was a better standard of post to try and interact with. I seem to remember that Bubblews insisted on a minimum character count (was it 300 or 400?) That might be a little too long for here but maybe 200 might improve the quality.
Hey myLotters! As a lot of you know, I'm the bug guy. I'm definitely an introvert and don't post much. I like reading what others post and chime in when...

Those one liners drive me bonkers. Do you? Do I what? Why would we answer if they ask a question that does not also tell us a bit about them? Do I feel like answering? No. I would uf it said "this is how I feel or what I experienced first and then asked a question.
