Fasting today, but not by choice

I am scheduled for one of those miserable medical exams tomorrow, the kind where you can't eat all day before and then have to drink about a gallon of nasty tasting liquid in the evening and then you can guess what happens. The good news is that it is a routine thing and I have not had one if five years. Of course, I am starving with no breakfast. It is lunch time now and I can have a can of Ensure (not very tasty) and all the tea, coffee, clear juices that I want. Ping pong is at one today and that will help take my mind off of food for a while. I hope my energy level is up to it. When it is over tomorrow I will feast on something like a huge burger and fries! Have you had the dubious pleasure of one of these exams?

No I haven't. Is it just a check up, or is there something wrong? I hope it's the former.

The test came out fine and I may have the burger later. I had a three egg omelet, toast and hash browns immediately this morning after the test.

I could not decide what I wanted most, so had a three egg omelet, potatoes and toast. It was pretty good. The good news is that the test was fine and I have no problems.

Not yet, but I can't wait for that thrill! That pizza looks good but since you can't eat maybe I can have it.

I had to fast for medical exams and this is something I hate. The hardest is to skip breakfast.

@JamesHxstatic The most important is to know that everything was fine. It's a very annoying test.

I had to skip all solid food yesterday, then drink 64 ounces of a very nasty concoction between 6 PM and bedtime, then I could not even have water this morning. But it is over now and the test shows no problems for me. I am relieved.

Been there, done that. A couple of years ago my brother called me and said they gave him a pill he had to take but if it didn't work then he had to drink the nasty stuff. He was wondering how long it would take when he suddenly said, "I got to go." and hung up.

I had no choice with my doc, I had to drink the whole 60-some ounces of this vile stuff. It is over now and I may never have to have another since I am sooo old. Funny story about your brother.

No I haven't but Vince has a genetic condition which means he has one every two years as a precaution. So far so good although his brother has had some problems Luckily his (the brothers) were caught before it developed into anything major. Good luck with yours.

@JamesHxstatic It certainly does seem to come incredibly quickly but having such a test is better than the alternative.

I stay away from those exams. I hate them. When I do my blood test for my choleserol I have to fast. We have lots of fast days so it does not bother me. I found when I go to the dental hygienist I do not eat breakfast now so she does not have so much tartar to clean out of my teeth.

@JamesHxstatic Good luck. When I have to fast not for an exam and it is a minor fast I can eat in the morning so have to get up early and do it and then can do things. Major fasts I do not like but do them. I am sorry that it throws your whole day off.

I guess when you reach a certain age it is recommended (over and over). The American Cancer Society recommends age 50 for men and for women. I was in my 60s.

Ugh. Think I know which test you're talking about. Good for you though. Not doing the test isn't worth it. My mom found out the hard way. Anyway, best of luck...go somewhere nice after it's over :-)

Take yourself a snack along for when you are done. It's only one day, I know it really sucks to have to do that, but..... Then you can go back to your regular eating.

I have my 5 year apt in April...something to look forward to...NOT. Do you get to watch the screen while it happens and see what the doctor sees? Last time I did and it was very interesting...not that I understood what he was seeing... but interesting.

The stuff he gives me makes me unaware of anything and that's okay. That screen is not too interesting to me.
