I forgot to give you an update on the Christmas Gifts for the kids

I have been busy with other thoughts running through my head, sorry. Yesterday @infatuatedbby asked me how the savings accounts went over as gifts for the kids. That's when I realized I forgot to tell everyone the results.
We had mailed their Christmas cards a week ago Friday and knew that they should have the cards (with the savings account information) last Monday. Low and behold I got a PM on Facebook from the mother saying how nice, thank you, great idea! OK, that was part of the response.
The next day my husband's son called to thank us. He thought that was a nice thing to do and they appreciate that we did that. My husband told him it was my idea.
Anyway, now life will be much easier at Christmas and birthday times!

It is a wonderful idea and more should think about this. Too much is wasted on nonsense.

Yes, absolutely. We should have started this when the first one was born, but better late than never.

I am not sure I understand...how can savings accounts be given as gifts? This is your account?

The accounts were opened in the kids' names but my husband and I are the 'guardians' of the accounts.

We are getting closer to those occasions when we will only give money to our kids. We're just running out of things to buy them. My parents started giving us money for Christmas several years ago, like at least 20 (since Dad has been gone almost 11). It is great that they called to thank you. A lot of people don't do that anymore and show little appreciation. That's the sad part of it.

@AbbyGreenhill When my mother's dementia first set in she would get angry that no one appreciated the money she gave us for Christmas. We had to make a very big deal to thank her and hope she would remember. It usually entails writing her a letter so it's sitting there in front of her and not a grand announcement on Boxing Day like we did one year. Bet I'm the only one who wrote her a letter.

This particular person very seldom acknowledges gifts, that's very sad. She asks for things but when it comes time to say thank you she is usually absent.

That is good that the parents have both acknowledged and thanked you for the gift. As you say it will make life a lot easier at gift-giving times.

Those kids have more 'stuff' than they will ever need, so this money is something that they can hopefully put to good use when they are older.
