Donnybrook, Western Australia, now has a local radio station. This has given local writers the chance to have their stories and poems broadcast over the air. I thought I'd share this one with you. I don't know if they'll use it but perhaps they will. And Then There Were Seven The hunter slid behind a tree. Up ahead, he'd spotted a deer nibbling on a branch. He eased a cartridge into the breach, cocked the gun and lifted it to his shoulder. Then he ever so slowly peered round the trunk of the tree, aimed just below the deer's left ear and squeezed the trigger. His senses thrilled to the smell of gunpowder and he watched the deer crumple to the snow, its blood staining a bright red patch. He was amazed to see a second deer near the first; its head high but seemingly unafraid. Shaking with excitement, he eased another cartridge into the gun, cocked it and dropped the second deer neatly beside its mate. A cough and the crack of a branch sent him back behind his tree. He hadn't noticed anyone around. He froze and waited. There was another cough then a booming voice split the quiet air. "Donner and Blitzen. Some b**stard's shot Cupid and Comet!' The hunter tiptoed away keeping the tree between himself and a sad group of seven reindeer and Santa Claus.
