The Cold Room

Canada
December 18, 2016 9:33am CST
We down sized when we bought our forever home. It's big enough for the two of us and still big enough to fill it with friends and relatives. However I have been a life long collector of Christmas items, and there is not enough space for all of them. I had a fake tree that I used when I had a store to decorate so It goes into our three season Sun Room, along with a lot of ornaments for the tree and some of my favorite winter items, like snow men, skiers, and a favorite antique Hallmark folded scene of a Christmas decorated home. The tablecloth came from my mother in law and its not big enough for my dining table but it adds to the festive feel in our very cold Sun Room. I have lights on a timer all year that lights it up all year at dark until bed time and comes on in the morning as we wake up. Now the Christmas tree decorated with snow flake lights is added to the timer. I had to wear my coat while setting this up, its been very frosty here and you can see our beautiful view of our ravine and greens space (green in the summer) that is now covered in snow. Wishing all of my myLot friends a very Merry Christmas...now I have to go make cookies...

Love the way you've draped that snowman over the back of a chair. Happy Christmas to you and yours Marilyn.

The snowman and the Santa in this photo were made by Elaine. they have heavy hands so they can hang. Santa is sitting with other Santa's on the top of my china hutch.

It looks beautiful. I also collect a lot of items too. And finding a place is always a problem, but it's so hard to let go of things.

@Gita17112016 I will leave it up to my children to get rid of the Christmas decorations...A lot of them are hand made by friends and family and have a history. Every year I do get rid of the unimportant items that have no sentimental connections, Little by little I am reducing the amount of Christmas decorations...but very little.

@PainsOnSlate I was watching a show where a professional was showing how to let things do. I tried it. this is what she did. Go to your item, pick it up, think of the wonderful times and then THANK IT for being there for you. Then give it away or put it (with respect) to be thrown out. You have to close the cycle and let go of the grieving process. We have to get rid of the clutter to make room for the new! (^_^)

@Juliaacv My boys that live north of us left to be home when the next snow arrives so they can plow. Here our snow is melting and tomorrow its supposed to rain.

Right back at you, we had Christmas last night because two of our boys were going to be plowing today but mother nature changed her mind, they went home this morning to be prepared if it does snow later today or tomorrow. My daughter stayed and we are having a quiet day..

Just think...if we have a sunny day, that isn't windy or super cold, you will still be able to enjoy your sunroom.

We call it a three season room, Winter brings the cold and it stays cold there until spring.

@PainsOnSlate my parents had a closed in verandah on the south side of the house. On sunny days in the winter you could sit in that room quite comfortably.

We had a 3,000 sq foot home before we moved here and I still had more decorations that anyone could possibly use. I keep putting things out at yard sales but Christmas stuff doesn't sell well around here for some reason.

I won't sell them, I will give them to my kids and friends if they like them. Love my collections and it will be up to the kids to get rid of them when I'm gone!

I am a bit envious. I imagine it helps the rest of your house stay warmer when there is any sun.Nice to have a place for those collected items.

It does work like that, we had the door to the house open all fall with the sun room closed up and warm from the sun...
