Another truck attack, this time in Berlin

I just read that another truck attack has occurred, this one in Berlin Germany. It hasn't been confirmed yet as a terrorist attack, but it sounds like German police think it was an intentional act. I think eight people have died so far. The incident occurred in a crowded area of Berlin, as Holiday shoppers, including many women and children, were out and about. I'm sure we'll hear more about this as the day goes on.

It is tragic. I have been following it on the news. It occurred in a Christmas Market. And to think we were planning on visiting Berlin in the late spring.

When I was in Munich a few years ago, I noticed how clean and safe everything appeared. I was telling a local how American cities were infested with crime. The person said, German cities are safe, except for some parts of Berlin.

@TheHorse I've been to other cities in Germany and waited for someone to say, "Papers. Please!" All cities have good and not so good parts. But Berlin is still on the list.

That's terrible. And it seems besides Germany, something like that also happened to Switzerland. I really don't understand. Swtizerland is supposed to be a peaceful country and why it will be attacked? It is so bad to see the terrorist attack everywhere.

As the target is a Christmas market I do not doubt that it is a terrorist attack : the French police arrested in November a group of terrorists who were projecting to attack Christmas markets in Paris Champs-Elysées and Eurodisney.

@TheHorse They do not celebrate Christmas, why would we celebrate it? I think that it is for the same reason than the Nice attack last July for our National holiday : they are targeting places with a lot of people and few or no police officers where they can kill a maximum of innocents. Our interior ministry has decided to put policemen in any Christmas market, but it is very difficult to stop a truck running into a crowd... I believe more in preventing attacks than in stopping them, and our police is doing a very good job actually to prevent new terrorist attacks in France and identify terrorists before they strike.

Why a Christmas market? Wasn't Jesus a prophet to Muslims?

I heard about this on TV, it's similar to what happened in Nice. They keep on saying it was probably a terrorist attack, and I agree. So sad.

@sabtraversa A man from Pakistan was the first suspect but the police had to let him go. They're now questioning a man from Tunisia.

I've heard so many reports of terrorist activities from Turkey and now Germany. I wish it would stop and we could have a wonderful Christmas the world over.

We've just heard about this too. And in my post about the snake in the Christmas tree, Malu said 'Life in Germany is so uneventful'. I replied that she should be careful what she wished for. Who could have known?

I missed her comment. Germans are very polite in my experience. I didn't spend enough time there to get a real feel for things. In some ways it reminded me of the American Midwest and West but with older buildings.

I am confused about the story because yesterday they were saying it was most likely a terrorist attack and then I read where they arrested the wrong guy, then I read one article about how all the news medias jumped to conclusions too soon about it being a terrorist attack (that it was an accident). I need to go read up on it. Either way, what happened is bad. I pray for the families of those killed.

That is awful. I will pray for all involved. Just found this.
A truck ran into a Christmas market Monday evening in a major public square in Berlin, killing nine people and injuring at least 50 others, police said.

The body count is up to nine. They will not say the nationality of the truck driver but I think we can figure it out.

Did they catch him? If so, I'm glad. here in the US, the news doesn't always report the nationality or ethnicity of criminals.

I say call them to table, with their demands and let their own community decide if those are the rules and regulations that they want to impose on their children.

I never will understand why some people act on that way producing multiple accidents, killing a huge group of persons, without looking after whom they are taking off their lifes. It makes no sense. But the fear is already etablished all around the world as Berlin is only one sample of too much hate all around. Yesterday, it was Berlin; tomorrow it will be somewhere else.

I just heard about that too. It''s scary as hell to me, knowing that these people walk the earth, and think it's ok to kill people in the name of their "god". Personally, I can't get behind any deity that doesn't do his/her/it's own dirty work.
