I said my last post would be the last before Christmas but I lied. We're now in Melbourne and we have wi-fi so that is good.
We've just found out that RTE [Radio Telefís Éireann (Radio Television Ireland)] is recording and live-broadcasting midnight mass in the Donnybrook Catholic Church in Western Australia on Christmas eve. The actual wording is 'televised' so I guess that means TV. I can't believe that there hasn't been a bit of publicity about this before now.
The times and information are on the parish website so it sounds legit. Donnybrook is also a suburb in Dublin. 'Our' Donnybrook is very small and I'm finding it hard to understand why RTE is interested in doing this. There are bigger congregations with bigger and better everything all over the state but somehow it seems we're 'it'. What a pity we won't be here for it although we've pretty much stopped going to church.

People in Ireland will see a Christmas Eve mass in Australia in the afternoon
? I had a look, and 11 pm in Australia is 2 1/2 pm in Ireland, it is a bit early. Maybe they chose this church because it is very small. Our TV alternates between small communities and large cathedrals for the Sunday mass. I had a look and our midnight mass on TV will be the mass celebrated by pope Francis in Rome.

Televising religious rituals including mass has become a way here since pretty long So have you decided to watch it in the comforts of your hotel?

@JudyEv Even where I live it is a semi rural town but must say it has really developed in all spheres.

In the south church TV is a biggie - none are Catholic.

I've always been curious...what's the most popular, or biggest, church denomination in Australia? Is it the Catholic Church, or a Protestant denomination?

You took a beautiful photo; how nice to fly above the clouds. Yes, they are broadcasting it on television, maybe to allow busy people or those who could not go to church to hear mass.

Even the churches are affected by technology. Why go to church if the church is on your phone or tablet

That's true to a large degree. Some like meeting other parishioners I guess if they don't see them any other way.

That is nice that they are televising from a small church instead of one of the larger ones. I am sure that there will be lots of people there for midnight mass.

I am glad you have wifi, Merry Christmas and how fun that they are recording Mass in your neck of the woods. Maybe because it has the same name as the area in Ireland?
