It looks like a caterpillar, or a spider, nest. The nests are very similar.

It's a funnel web spider or baboon spider web, my daughter thinks rather the baboon spider. I can get clarity anywhere on Wikipedia

Depends upon magnification.....at times soap foam can give that sort of thing...but there are some foamy web like formation in some seasons...don't know their names or purpose or creatures that make them...but they do exist.

It's obviously a spider-web but I don't know what sort of spider it is. Did you put your finger down that hole? I'm guessing not!

No I would never put my finger down any hole. However they did prove it with a stick to entice the spider out, but the spider did not come to the knock on the door
