Getting out of a hole

I've just read @xfiacre's post about his elderly mother falling and his father putting off calling the ambulance till 'rush-hour for ambulances' was over. Here's the link: http://www.mylot.com/post/3018816/putting-others-needs-first-has-its-place-but. Please someone let me know if I need to delete the link.
It reminded me of an elderly couple some years ago. The husband fell in the garden and couldn't get up. He was too big for his wife to be able to help him up but he insisted that she dig a hole so he could swing his legs into the hole and sit up. He was then able to stand but she also had to dig a step out of the hole before he was finally mobile again.
I think I might have hit him with the shovel!
The photo is of a red flowering gum which is just starting to blossom this year on our property. The photo is from last year.

@JudyEv yes it is and a lot of them are like that. It was the way they were raised.

What if it was the case requiring prompt attention? What the elderly has done is set in their way.

@JudyEv However sometimes you can't get out the trouble without others' help ,especially when you are up in years.

@changjiangzhibin89 That is very true and it is something that older people need to come to terms with. Most of them have helped plenty of people when they were younger and it would be good if they felt able to accept help now they are older. I'm now one of these 'older people' too!

I read that as well. I'm glad his mom seems to be ok. It's hard to tell our parents what they should do, most of the time our parents simply do as they please no matter what.
As for the wife digging the hole, well maybe he could have done some of that digging.

No, we are allowed to shared links as long as it has the same topic and @xfiacre will love the exposure.
As for your story (I will have to read the other one) that sound reasonable and something my own husband would ask me too.

Glad you like the flowers. Sometimes the tree is covered in blossom, other times it barely has any flowers.

As I said on the other post, I probably would have called a friend/neighbor/relative for help.
My husband's father fell once (at least once, possibly more times) and he was home alone when it happened.
Probably a story for my own discussion.

@JudyEv But couldn't the wife have walked to a neighbor's house? That would have been far less work than digging a hole..

At the time of my story, they may not have had a telephone. I can't remember the exact details now as it happened a long time ago.

@katsmeow1213 As I said I don't remember but it could easily have been a farmer.

When I was a child I knew of many farmers who were very pig-headed and hard to get along with.

You'd think it would be quite hard work for an old lady.

Really? He wouldn't call the ambulance? That guy is going to spend a few nights sleeping on the couch!

People tend to be stuborn and not want to admit when they need help. I know Im one of them, this kind of reminded me a few days ago when my shower chair broke when I was taking a shower. My husband was trying to help me up and make sure I wasnt hurt and I was carrying about getting the soap out of my hair first.
