The Verdict Is Out

The Verdict is still out on the ancestral DNA kit that I ordered and sent off. I received an email when they received it, and then another teasing one to say they were analyzing it.
I am anticipating it's arrival any day now, but think that I'm getting ahead of myself as well. They did mention something about a month. I don't remember if they said it would take a month from the day they received it or from the day they started to analyze it. I received the email that THEY received it exactly one month ago, four days from now.
The verdict is still out, and I've got family who don't believe I'll get anything really "true" back about it. They think they'll just write down any ol' thing to make me happy and can't really tell my ethnicity by my spit.
I guess we shall see, won't we? I do intend to try another after this one though.

$100 is pretty cheap or so I thought, when I looked a few years ago they were around £400 but apparently they have dropped in price significantly to around £80.
I found this interesting.

Just read through the article you posted. I was already considering trying 23andme but I think this article made my decision for me. The one thing I see on this ladies ancestry.com results that I'm not very excited about is the fact that it didn't break down the specific areas as I would expect. The website leads you to believe that it can break it down to the regions as well, and so if it doesn't I'll be firing off a complaint.
The percentages is what I am really after. I *might* fill out a family tree on ancestry.com again but then that would cost me more money, as I do not have an account with them any longer. The break down of my Native American blood (especially the percentages since I have a feeling that I have a Native American ancestor closer to me than I first thought) is another thing I'm after.
Oh and as for the pricing? A lot of advances must have been made over the past few years, especially with so many competitors cropping up.

It would be an interesting way to test the validity of the tests, that's for sure.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I wonder if someone did it, just to verify.

@LadyDuck I am not sure, but it wouldn't be something I'd be surprised by someone doing.
If you look down a few posts, Mike posted an article where a woman compares two different kits, one from Ancestry.

I will, when I do get it. My family keeps asking me about it, even if they aren't too convinced of it's validity.

@ScribbledAdNauseum .....You seem more interested than they are. I wish I could do mine.

@celticeagle They aren't cheap, and had I known I'd have two months of very little hours, I'd have saved the money for my bills.

I did that and I think the results are real. They even matched me up with a couple of couple of cousins saying I was related to them.

You did yours through ancestry.com? There are several sites now, and each have claim that they can break it down more etc.
I might try 23andme's next.
