I love free stuff

I've become part of a couple of writer's groups on Goodreads. Really nice communities, welcoming, helpful people. I also really like how they often have promotions and do some marketing work for their members. With all the publishing silliness today, I've gone firmly Indie. I've never regretted it, either. I may not get an advance - but I keep all the royalties. And I can get a book to print fairly quickly, too. As for typos and such, I have a good editor - and have you seen some of the mistakes in commercial books these days? Anyway, on to free stuff. Two of my books are free from now till the 18th in Kindle form, and the aforementioned group has a big free day today. I wrote a blog entry about it, linked below in case anybody wants some cool, independently published free books! (Note: I am NOT selling anything. The link is not to a commercial site.)
Hey everybody, want a free book or three? Two of my books have been featured on the “Support For Indie Authors” group’s free book promotion.  These will be free from Friday, Janua…

I wish you the best of luck with this. I've heard the market is a tough one.

There is also the other side of that coin @Rohvannyn those of us with no talent for writing wouldn't stand a chance .... are there any rules you have to follow to become published?

@rebelann Well, those with no talent for writing wouldn't try to get published anyway, right? There aren't really any rules for being published, except that naturally if you write something illegal most places won't publish it. Also, if what you write is really low quality, then people wouldn't buy it. And if they don't know it's out there, they can't buy it. So authors do a lot of their own promotion, which big publishing companies are starting to expect people to do anyway... in the meantime, there's no editor saying "you can't say that," or "your novel is too long," or "we're going to hire another author to rewrite that." That's why I went Indie.

It is if your goal is getting rich, but it always was. It's kind of nice because in this market you can actually sell just a few books, without having to buy a thousand copies, so unless you blow a bunch of money on marketing you will never have a financial loss. I love that.

I've belonged to Goodreads for years but never got too involved. Sounds like you've found yourself a couple of good communities. I agree with you re indie publishing, we simply call it self-publishing here and it is far more popular than it ever used to be. I'm off to see the designer and printer with my latest book at the end of the month.

Neat! Generally I called it Self Publishing before as well, but the group I'm on gave me a new habit. Best of luck with your new book!

I hope you get lots of readers to read and review your free ebooks. I only read print books myself! I've heard of goodreads but have never tried the site. Whenever I write reviews I do them on my blog on blogger.

That's a great place to do reviews. I have really enjoyed Goodreads, as a place for readers to go and discover new books. I like how all the books on there will show you where you can find them, whether it's stores, Amazon, libraries, or whatever. It's actually a lot of fun.
