Good morning everyone! I hope your all doing well today. =) I wasn't here much yesterday, I apologize. Things here were pretty hectic...just busy with babysitting.
I have been getting more calls than ever lately about babysitting! I watched 2 boys yesterday morning. The mom told me the older boy (16 yrs old) was autistic and his brother who is 5 was border line autistic as well. I said that wasn't a problem. What she didn't tell me is the older boy isn't potty trained and I would need to change his diaper.
My husband said that is NOT happening. My husband stayed home for part of the day to help me and he asked that I don't watch them again. So I won't.
After they left I had 2 more boys here. They are 4 & 6 years old. I will have these two kiddo's full time. =) Good thing they were well behaved and they get along with my kids.
I am about to watch them today from 10am-7pm. =) I will be here on and off though since their the only ones I am watching today.
What are you going to be doing today?

I think I would have trouble with watching autistic kids no matter what age they are

@LovingMyBabies Actually with one of our kids at school that is a big problem. He is well entertained by his own thoughts and does not want to learn.

@GardenGerty Well yes it can be when your teaching them but I was just watching them for a couple hours for their mom to go to the doctor. So I didn't have that issue.

@hostessman They are very good children actually. They keep themselves entertained for the most part.

Sounds like you certainly had a very busy day with your babysitting. I give you a lot of credit because it isn't always easy babysitting

No such thing as "borderline autistic" either he is or is not. If there was school yesterday they should have been there. If not, she needs specialized care for her boys if she needs to work. Perhaps school or social services could help with that. You do not need that with all the little ones at home. She probably has been rejected by many care providers. Every autistic person is different. Two of my caseload are autistic and are as different as night and day. Today, Saturday, I am taking it easy.

@GardenGerty Yeah I know, I think she said that so she didn't scare me off or something. He is highly functioning but still autistic for sure.
They are both Home Schooled. Her sons are like night and day as well, very different.

Why on earth wouldn't the parents disclose that the older child wasn't capable of using the toilet?
I don't blame you for deciding not to watch them again in the future. That's way more than you bargained for. Glad to hear that's not the norm, though, and the other kids get along fine with your own.

@yukimori I think she knew if she mentioned that fact I wouldn't have said yes. I'm pregnant and can't possibly change a 16 year old's diaper!
No it's definitely not the norm, thank God. The 2 that are here now are very good. =)

@LovingMyBabies Honestly, you would have been well within your rights to refuse to provide care after the truth came out. It's absurd that she didn't have the common decency to give you all the information you needed to make an informed decision about providing care for her children. I guess if a similar situation comes up in the future you'll definitely want to ask about toileting abilities.
How wonderful that the two that are with you now are so good. That's a must if you're taking care of them full time, so it sounds like a good fit for you and the family as a whole.

Today is the 15th of January. Not much happening at work. I'm on cruise control. Been online here in myLot since this morning while also attending to other things. Will be online later for my second job as an ESL tutor for Japanese students.

Glad to hear that you are busy with babysitting. I really like your card! It was not fair of that mom to not disclose that her older son is not potty trained.

I can fully understand why your husband don't want you taking care of the autistic kids again they can be a handful I know my son is autistic. What are you going to do when you go in the hospital to have the baby?

@LovingMyBabies You are so right a 16 year old autistic child needing diapers is wrong unless something else is wrong or like you said parents being lazy. My son who is autistic was trained by age 5. That's good that you are going to still do it once you have the baby. How many kids are you going to take in? and will you still home school your kids with doing the childcare?

@Tina30219 I have taken care of autistic children in the past without any issues at all but a 16 year old needing diaper changes is where my husband had a problem. All of the other autistic children I have watched have been potty trained by 5 or 6 years old. That tells me either something else is wrong or the mother is lazy in parenting.
When I go into labor the mom will have to find care for a couple of days while I'm in the hospital. Once I'm home again I can still handle babysitting. =)

@sishy7 Yes it is. This is a better area we live in now so people are more interested in my services. =)
Yeah I think she purposely left that detail out.

That is certainly something you should have been told before hand. I would feel uncomfortable with that too and I don't think I would want to continue to watch them.

When you're not told things like that it can cause you a lot of stress.

Nice that you got 2 boys full time and that they get along with your kids. Glad to hear you childcare is doing great. The extra money will be great. I don't have too many plans today but I do have to go shopping to buy a birthday gift for my grand daughter. Her party is tomorrow. I have no idea what I am getting her yet. I, also, have to buy a present for my soon to be step grand daughter who also turned 9 a few days before my grand daughter.
With the upcoming marriage of my daughter I will gain two more grand daughters from his previous relationship. I already consider them family though. They are 8 and 9.

My daughter's birthday party is also tomorrow. She is turning 8 on Monday. =-)
That's good that you have more little ones being added to the family.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I would not watch that sixteen year old either. That is good that you got those two boys full time. The time is good to. Your children can do their school work early if they do not sleep in.

Baby sitting is a lot of work, when you have several children that you are sitting for.It would be hard to care for the odler one in a diaper.
