How are you spending the Martin Luther King, Jr Holiday?

I am spending today at home, still fighting this cold, though I seem to be winning (knock on wood). I was thinking of seeing if I could find the movie SELMA on television and watching it today in honor of Dr. King. It seems like a fitting way to spend some time today. It appears I can stream it through Amazon Video. My other plans for the day include finishing the next lesson or two in the writing course I'm taking. I completed the assignment from the last lesson last night. I was supposed to outline 4 or 5 chapters for my new story, I wound up with a Baker's Dozen. Of course, I'll spend some time playing with Ace. He's patiently waiting for me to finish on the computer so I can throw his squeaky squirrels for him. Is today a holiday for you, or do you have to work?

Retirement means it is always a holiday. Just a regular day here.

@AbbyGreenhill My wife might not like that. She gets grumpy when she remembers I get to retire a couple years before she does.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX Selma is on Amazon Prime Video. I just finished it. Powerful movie. John Lewis, the Congressman Trump has been bashing, is also mentioned in the movie.

Happy Birthday, Jailynn!
@LovingMyBabies I'm impressed with her for making such an unselfish choice. More proof that you and your husband are doing a great job raising your children. Here's a cake for her from me.

Do you guys have someplace like Chuk'E'Chees around there? My boys used to love going their when they were about her age. I don't think I've been since the youngest was 10 or 11. Never liked their pizza.

Do you spoil your son when he's home by cooking all his favorite things the way my wife does when our boys come home?

Aren't board meetings fun? I've always thought they should be called bored meetings.

I didn't realise there was a public holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr. It is certainly very fitting that there should be one.

It became a Federal holiday in 1986. A lot of states held out for decades making it a holiday for state workers. There was a lot of opposition from certain elements to making it a holiday because Dr. King was not universally admired by all Americans.

Can't work at the moment 'cause I'm taking care of Mom, but I'm a substitute preschool teacher so I don't work regularly anyway. This holiday I've been unloading the dishwasher, vacuuming, and now I'm going to go get lunch and wait for Mom's oxygen to be delivered.

I"m retired so today is just a regular day for me. Thankfully the sun is shining so I'm thinking of taking a ride just to get out of the house for a little while

If I were feeling better I'd have gone somewhere today. As it is, staying in and resting is just fine with me.

I had to work for four hours in the morning (5am-9am), but then when I got off work my son and I went hiking with fully loaded backpacks. For his birthday in March, he wants to do a week-long backpacking adventure on the Florida Scenic Trail through Ocala National Forest. Last year, we did four days on the trail, and we weren't as physically prepared for the miles of hiking as we should have been. So this year, we are "practicing" for our backpack adventure by taking hikes with our backpacks on to build up our strength and stamina so we will be better prepared for our adventure this year!

It'll be a quiet day around town here, not that I plan on going to town. Between the base, all government offices, the schools, and the Post Office being closed, few people have to go out and about.
