Time for a do-over!

No, I'm not talking politics. I don't do or do-over politics if I don't have to and my brain is on overload so let's move on.
We had thought about having work done on our kitchen cabinets. However, we found that with a little stain and a few hours of time we have the cabinets looking almost like new.
That meant we could focus on the next project, one I've been wanting to do since we moved in. The master bath - I can't stand the laminate counters one more day. There are three separate pieces and that means two joints...and whoever did them did a horrible job. They don't meet properly and we've noticed in our time here the gap is wider now.
I contact a company in Chattanooga that does solid surfacing counters and the girl gave me all kinds of prices and options over the phone and then she basically talked me into granite. We have a company we deal with for granite and we liked their work so why switch?!
The company is White's Marble and they are just a half-hour ride so we went to check out their granite. After going over the measurements (I had a detailed drawing for them to use) and other information we went out into the area where they store the slabs.
We found two instantly that would work with our existing colors. But we continued on to the area where they store slabs that are single slabs...meaning they only have one, which is good for a bathroom but not enough for a kitchen. They sell them at a discount.
We found one that we both loved. When I heard the price I was shocked, but the sales guy said he would get us a good deal. So he did his thing with the lady who is in charge of prices and we got a fantastic slab of granite $30 a linear foot less than the original price. The discount brought the price inline with the other two slabs we liked.
We wrote up the order and paid a deposit....now we have to call to get on the schedule for the man to come work up the template. Before he comes we, meaning my husband, has to take the sinks/faucet and counter off completely. If my husband runs into trouble we can have the granite place do it for a cost...we'll see how that goes.
The sales guy chipped off a corner of the slab so we could check it out in the bathroom - it will look fantastic and not something everyone else has. Can't wait to get started.
Photo is mine.

I ordered new Delta faucets from FacetsDirect. They were $100 below what Delta sells them for. I ordered Thursday afternoon and they arrived yesterday - that's fast service! The granite will also reflect light and when you have all wood rooms it sucks up light.

Yes, we do. I could have gotten the same for the bathroom but wanted something a little different.

I wonder if there's politics involved in your home improvement project. :D

@Drosophila He wants what I want - or he'd be living someplace else, alone! We always agree and I always win.

@AbbyGreenhill well you know your husband wants one thing, you want another.. politics enters into who gets what when

I am happy for you and the replacements! I rather like laminate myself, but the solid stuff, NOT the cheapy ironed on thin covering

This isn't cheap ironed on what...never heard of that. But I like natural - this house has lots of wood and the natural stone is very fitting.

@Jessicalynnt Laminate means two pieces of material laminated together...a thin layer of vinyl laminated onto cheap wood of some kind. Anything poured isn't laminate. You might mean solid surface, which is man-made. Granite is easy to take care of - we went two years before we had to seal it which involved a spray can and some rags..not hard at all.

@AbbyGreenhill most places that have older laminate it's this thin stuff with seams and looks cheap. They do make solid poured laminate, which is just another granite look, just not stone. I like stone, just not the caring of it. I also like the treated concrete countertops.

Oh, that sounds like an exciting update. When you can do it yourself that is a a plan, so then you have the funds for more high end stuff where needed.

@AbbyGreenhill ......I love wood. I was just looking at some log homes the other day. All the different floor plans. My apartment is so in need of work. Living in housing you put up with what you have. Better than the streets I think.

This house was done like a log home - so lots of wood and lots of neutrals and I stick with it or I'd be changing everything and painting over the wood walls LOL.

The granite seems to be a real bargain. And that the granite is wear-resisting.
