Does Glucosamine/Chondroitin really help joints?

I've been having lots of pain with my knees, shoulders, and right hip. Have any of you tried Glucosamine/Chondroitin? It's supposed to help arthritis and joint pain, but I've read that you have to take it for several months to see results, if any at all. If you tried it, did it help? Did you have any bad side effects? Thanks, myLot peeps.

Research done my me for another site lead to details about magnesium and calcium being one solution, as well as avoiding certain foods, such as nightshade vegetables. G'mother said all nonsense and to drink apple cider vinegar in a bit of warm water daily.

@PatZAnthony Yes magnesium, calcium, avoiding certain foods and eating certain foods and seasoning will help but will not replace the cartledge. I wish it would! It will help with some swelling and pain

Telling the truth I have read about that before but I had my doubts about it. Also eating tomatoes is supposed to provoke inflammation. But then you read somewhere else that the information about tomatoes and so on is utter nonsense. So who can you believe? I think that a bit of everything and eating more than a third of fresh greens is a must every day. Hope that hip is not playing you up now. I am eating less bread and biscuits also to see if that is what causes all the inflammation although I don´t have any Arthritis as yet.

Thanks for your response. The results of my MMR showed the the hip pain is referred from back issues. Waiting for an appt with a pain clinic to get spinal injections.

I've never taken it long enough to know if it helps. I get all gung-ho and take it for awhile and then forget to take it. Hope you can find some help with it if you decide to take it

I think the hardest part would be continuing to take it long enough to see if it helps.

I have been using it for about 15 years and for me it does help. I have found that it has to be the 1500-500 combination, some have started to skimp on the Chondroitin. My orthopedic doctor suggested it to me. It is not an instant fix it takes a month or two to see result and no, there are no side effects and it does not interfere with my blood pressure or cholesterol medicine. It has saved my life, I was in so much pain before. I order it online from Puritan pride where it is well priced.

I was on it for ages and have now been off it just as long. It's hard to say if it helped. I don't think I'm much worse but maybe it did help. I don't remember having any side-effects. My main problem was that I find it very difficult to swallow tablets so it was always an issue for me just to take them. It was easy to stop.

I did try it but for me it didn't work. I didn't have any side effects from taking it. I hope that if you try it that it would work for you. Maybe it depends on how bad your arthritis is on it's helping?

@1creekgirl I am not sure if it did, it was expected to keep the joints in a better condition in the long run and maybe it has because her condition hasn't gotten worse.
