It's Just What We Need!

My husband, Vince, and I have been around a long time and we've had ample opportunity to accumulate a whole host of various items, some of which have had little use and many of which have had a lot of use. However whenever we go to a garage (yard) sale we invariably find something that we didn't know we needed. And how lucky were we to come across such an item?
One of these lucky finds was a set of poker chips, all stacked neatly in a very nice lockable carry-case. Each chip has the denomination stamped on it. I think we paid $5 for the set and we've had some great games of poker since. It always goes with us at New Year when we gather for several days with some friends. Do you ever come across things you didn't know you needed until you saw them?

I do find items that I need and when I do I think it is the start of a good day for me. A good price on a frying pan that would have cost nearly 50 dollars new or better. Then there was a time I found this very useful French Press to make my coffee. It was in perfect condition. Thrift Stores are indeed good places to shop.

Sometimes the items are amazingly cheap. I love getting a bargain. I guess most people do.

They looked brand new. And we bought them for a song so we were very pleased.

@JudyEv I went to a thrift store a couple days ago and found a very beautiful tea cup from England that was $6.99. I just felt a pull to take it for my shelf. At the counter, she charged me .99 and said it was discounted. I didn't need it but that little cup sitting near my books, makes me smile when I look at it.

That's great! I often buy oddball things but only rarely does it turn out so well as yours! Enjoy!

@princemaxp I just pay what they ask but often the price is quite low.

I never really went to garage sales. I always wanted to go and see what I can find. But the spring is going to come soon so I might just go around looking. Although they are not that easy to find here in the city like they are outside the city.

@JudyEv I think she is right. I worked with a guy year ago, he worked for the sewer department here in NYC and I worked with the water supply. And he used to go on calls there in the rich areas and found awesome things they would just throw away. And almost brand new. So, your friend is correct.

The other day I found my old smartphone. It is not a good phone but I figured I can use it as a monitor for my baby when she starts sleeping in her own room. All I need to do is download an app for that then I can see and hear her on my phone anywhere in the house

That's very true. And even if an item might seem a bit of a luxury if you had to pay full price, if it is a good price why not take advantage of the opportunity?

I never went to garage sales until I helped a friend in Denver with a couple, and they were really fun. Now I check them out sometimes. Last summer we got a big cat crate for ten bucks.

This has happened to me a few times, but I controlled myself and didn't buy.
