Rings for my fingers and bells for my toes.

When we were teenagers my friends and I used to examine our emerging adult features with concern, expressing often the changes we wished we could bring about in pursuit of the perfect body or face. Hair was too straight, or too curly, legs too fat or too thin, we were intolerant of anything that might prevent us from achieving our goal of perceived loveliness. My pet hate was my nose. It was not the pert little thing I thought it ought to be. It was a big nose. My father had a very big nose and I feared that mine would become much the same as time went by. My husband charmingly describes my nose as having ‘character’ and it does seem smaller now to me than it did many years ago. I suspect that it is exactly the same size but my face has merely grown bigger to accommodate it. If I could change anything now it would be only my fingers. I wish they were long and elegant. Fingers on which rings would look their best, with room to spare for two instead of barely one.

Very interesting , my daughter has a lovewly nose but I worried when she was a baby because my husband is Greek and has the nose to prove it...If I could change anything I would love to strong nails on my fingers, they have always been thin and won't grow long, the break and need to be cut short...But other than that, life is good...

I have the same type of nails. I envy those who have long, strong nails.

Please don't remind me of the Greek nose, my husband is Greek! He is an authority on noses, passed down from his father who could read more into the shape of the nose than a gypsy reads into tea leaves in a cup!

Isn't that funny? I have short, fat fingers too - and a nose I consider too big. But I'm stuck with all 11 of these features.

I think you should count the hands as one and the nose as one, so that is only 2 features less than perfect. We can live with that!

I think that bathroom mirrors are more complementary now days than they used to be in the stone age. I was never real thrilled with my nose either. I have long fingers and have been told I would be good at the piano Never liked playing and gave it up early on. We all have things we wish were different. Humans aren't perfect. One leg longer and an arm longer. It's rather sad.

@41CombedaleRoad .....My leg is 12 degrees shorter than the other and causes me problems.

I doubt that they had mirrors in the stone age, they would have had to look at themselves in a pool of water or puddle, so you are probably right. One leg longer is a bit of an inconvenience though.

I too never liked my nose and my husband called it a philosopher's nose for whatever reason. I wish my legs were prettier (lol)

It is funny how we associate characteristics with our noses. Your husband's description makes your nose one to be desired!

you're right I think we all go through stages like that, I wish I was taller... and like you I wish I had longer fingers, as I like rings too, but they do not show very well on my short stumpy fingers...

Sometimes I wish I was younger, but there is nothing I can do about that either....

I remember being so critical of myself when I was younger too. I always thought I wasn't skinny enough. I hated my curly hair. I could find so many flaws in myself. But now I can say that I am pretty happy with who I am. I really don't have too many things I would want to change. I am Happy2BeMe!!

That's nice, it is best to be content with what we have and as we grow older we appreciate our blessing more and more.

@Happy2BeMe I was looking at a photo of myself taken 30 years ago when my hair was thick and brown and I didn't give it a second thought. Now my hair is thinner and grey I wish I had cut a little piece off just to remind me of how things used to be...

We all have this kind of thought and what I would change would be my nose. It's not too big, but not as little as I would like to have it. My fingers are fine, no problems with my hands, my feet or my legs. Of course I am not fully happy of my hair.

Generally speaking Anna you have nothing much to complain about. I'm not too happy with my hair either but my husband envies it because he has lost most of his.

@41CombedaleRoad I cannot complain because I have thick hair, my husband too, but we always have something to complain about.

Lol - I think my nose has 'character' too! There is room for two rings on my fingers, but my nails are always breaking.

Mine too and I don't know why except maybe it is because I rarely wear rubber gloves to protect them from the various chemicals used with water around the house.

My sister was a lot like that when we were growing up. She always needed to be in fashion, and was concerned about her looks. Me, I could care less. Not that I let myself go, or didn't care about how I looked. I made sure my clothes matched, my hair was combed, and my shoes were tied. Beyond that, I didn't wear jewelry and still don't for the most part. My favorite feature is my eyes, my worst is my hands. I smashed my hands in a window - it came down on them when I was trying to crawl through it when I was nine or ten years old so they are all bent out of shape.
