~How My Appointment Went~

Valdosta, Georgia
February 8, 2017 5:01pm CST
So I got back from my appointment a little while ago. Baby Josiah is completely head down now. Apparently this is God's will and I am supposed to have another natural labor. My doctor won't do a c-section unless medically necessary but she did recommend getting the epidural this time because of my back issue... I don't know. A needle anywhere near my spine is not comforting so I have to pray about that for a while. So...it's up to God and Josiah as to when he's ready to join us. We will see. =) I'm feeling a little less emotional this evening, still concerned about my back during labor though...

Wondeful news that Josiah has turned around. I had one epidural for my first son's C-section.

@LovingMyBabies That needle scared me from having an epidural with any of my 4 children...and scared my oldest daughter from having it with any of her 5 children. My middle daughter had it with both of hers and my youngest also got one. With them I was happy as they were driving me mad with their screaming and crying over the pain :)

@LovingMyBabies I had my other C-section with "all out anesthesia". Have you considered this?

Glad to hear that he has turned, that is wonderful news. You can decide about the epidural when the time comes. For now try to relax and not worry too much.

@Happy2beme Thank you. =) Yeah I will decide when I see how bad the pain will be this time. I need to somehow find a way to relax and not think so much.

Both my daughters had epidurals successfully but I'm sure God will come through for you when it's time for Josiah to make his entrance.

Five kids. No epidural. The thought of that needle scares me more than ten labours.

I have always been afraid of the idea of epidural, even though I am not a mother yet. You should choose what is best for you. I hope you will have a backpain-free natural labor!

@besweet Yeah the thought of it scares me as well. I have never had it and I never wanted to but it depends on the pain I think. Thank you!

Great news and personally the needle for the epidural going into my back when I delivered my 2nd son, truly saved my life. I highly recommend it.

@LovingMyBabies I am not afraid of needles because I have had my blood drawn a lot because of a hospital stay I endured when I was young.

That's wonderful news, I am so relieved for you! I understand how you feel about the epidural going into the spine, and I would really have to think on it if it were me. You take your time and think on it, as I know that you'll do what's best in the end. Great news!

@Juliaacv Thank you! =) Yeah I hate needles and especially anything going into my spine does not make me happy at all. I doubt I will get it but it also depends on the pain level this time. Thanks!

@Juliaacv That's the kind of thing that scares me. I am healthy right now and I don't want to take the chance of doing something that could hurt my body in any way. I don't want to end up paralyzed with 5 children!

@LovingMyBabies For me my labour pains were quickly forgotten once I saw that beautiful little face, but I know of ladies who have dealt with memories of the epidural long after the birth. One lady I know told me that she had one that froze only one side of her body, and she had a bit of trouble walking after that. Be 100% sure you want one before you ask for it.

@HazySue I know some say it's great-others say not so much. I honestly don't trust doctors to do it right. They are humans and they make mistakes every day-which scares me when messing with my spine. And I haven't had good experiences with doctors in the past. Thank you!

@LovingMyBabies you have to do what is right for you. For some it is good for some not so much. Whatever you decide you need to feel comfortable with it. Hope the delivery is quick and easy.

I'm so relieved. My daughter had a epidural and the needle wasn't much fun but after that it was easy street. Just let it roll off you and you are almost there. Josiah will be a special boy.

Yeehawww @LovingMyBabies !! During natural labor, the body has a tendency to tighten up (all muscles clamping down), causing extra stress on the body. I think it's the mind telling the body to, "Hurry up, let's get this over with." Whereas with the use of an epidural, it lessens the muscle stress and you're not having to clamp down as hard because it's not really necessary. It is absolutely crucial that they know 'exactly' where to inject you. Too high is not good as it will be ineffective during the birthing process and will cause bad headaches.

@nanette64 Yeah I don't have good luck or experiences with doctors so it worries me. One wrong move on their part or mine could result in something bad happening-which is what really concerns me.
