Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining....Unless it is Filled with Snow!

We got slammed with snow today. Even though I left with plenty enough time to get to my first client, a 10 minute drive took me 25 minutes. Traffic was going 20-25 mph in a 50 mph zone. The roads were covered with snow. I was scheduled to see 4 clients. There were 2 waiver clients (waiver are those that require personal care along with housekeeping duties) and 2 homemaker visits (those that have only housekeeping duties). I did see the first two, who were my waiver visits. I was about to check out from the second client when I got a call from the scheduler telling me to go home after I finished with the second client. She said that the roads were terrible. Thankful I didn't have to risk life and limb to sweep and mop floors. The last two also wanted me to shop. Yeah, glad that I didn't have to do that in the storm. I did go home and do my own housekeeping. Just wish I got paid for it!

I've read about this storm from a few other members, it must be a bad one. I'm glad that you made it home safe and sound. And...if you find a way to get paid for doing your own housework, let me know, I've got a few decades of back pay that I'll need to apply for!

I am sure that if I were to get paid it would be pennies on the dollar. Yay

@ElusiveButterfly Go figure, and Canada no longer has pennies in our currency!

@Juliaacv I collect pennies. A penny saved is a penny earned. One day they will be obsolete here as well.

It is heavily snowing here too, but it's not windy and not too much cold. I hope it's going to stop before tonight.

@ElusiveButterfly It's sunny today, but I do not trust the month of February, we can get snow any moment.

The weather can change so many things! Work here comes to a halt for some when the roads are covered.

@PatZAnthony I understand that there isn't the equipment to clear roads as we have in the north. Many of my family and friends live in the south and laugh when they see what we consider a dusting of snow and there isn't a soul on the road.

My husband leaves for work at 5:15. The roads are never cleared at that hour. Rare are the times when they cancelled his work.

@ElusiveButterfly Here there might be an alert asking people to stay home if they are not part of a 'first responder team' but some will still head out.

I wouldnt mind sweeping and mopping for someone, or shopping for them. Not sure about the personal care, would depend on what that means I guess

Personal care can mean bathing, showering, toileting (including wiping the mess) changing soiled briefs, etc.

@Jessicalynnt it isn't that bad. I can clean up poop and it doesn't bother me, unless I am sick myself. Vomit and mucus is the worst. I can't handle that.

I wasn't too nervous until I encountered 2 tractor trailer trucks that couldn't make it up the hills. Had to make sure there wasn't anything coming down the hill so I could safely pass them. If I had stopped behind them I would have been stuck too.

@ElusiveButterfly I can't imagine driving in snow in such conditions, but I can pretty much understand the frustration of driving in heavy traffic conditions as we have in Delhi-NCR, the national capital region of India.

@ElusiveButterfly Passing anything too big would be a bit of a nightmare I would think.

Don't we all wish we got paid for doing our own housework! Snow is definitely not a silver lining.

Even if I were paid a fraction of what my normal pay would be, I would be happy with that.

So you are one of those home care people. I have home care nurses here a couple of times now and they are great. Not housekeeping, just personal care. They were all very nice. Sorry to hear about the weather there. We are having 40 degree weather with a lot of rain. There is also some fear of flooding around the area. Already have big puddles and in the out laying areas it seems to be worse. Hope your weather gets better.

Flooding is not a good thing. I hope that you do not have to worry too much about it. We are expecting warmer weather this week. It should be in the 40's.

@ElusiveButterfly ......We have had some flooding in areas where we usually do anyway this time of year. So pretty good so far.

Atleast you saw the waiver clients first. I am not sure if that's a requirement or not, but I am sure you would have had to brave the storm regardless had you not seen them first.

I would have only had to see the second one because the first doesn't always require personal care. Today was a day that she didn't need personal care. I probably could have stayed home until the second client. But, I am sure the roads would have been much worse had I waited.
