Reading Little House on the Prairie with my son

In my sons cyber school for Literature they have to read a book. They are given a list of approximately 12 books to choose from. My son chose "Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
The only problem was that the cyber school does not provide us with copies of these books so we have to find a way to get them on our own. We were supposed to read the first 3 chapters yesterday but this was the first day I found out we needed a physical copy of the book.
The library was about to close yesterday and today we got a foot of snow so I couldn't get there to grab a copy.
I looked around online and could find no online copies to read. So I posted on facebook asking if anyone knew any online site where we could read it free. My mother saved the day by bringing me a boxed set of the books her brother bought her when she was about my sons age.
The photo is of the book we borrowed from my mother and are reading.

It sounds as if the school didn't think out that program very well!! Glad you were able to find the book!!

Everything else we need we are usually provided but some things like a science experiments and these literature assignments we have to get ourselves. Imam okay with it I just would have liked to know we had to get a copy at least a few days ahead of time so we would have been prepared.

I loved the Little House books. And I still reread them once in a while. They are books that, besides being children“s books, they show adults how it was at the time of the pioneers and homesteaders.

@shaggin He is too young. I read it differently when I was a child.

We lived in Kansas where the little house on the Prairie was set, a state park was under construction. My daughter loved the stories and read them all. Wonderful read for any child and adults too..

My daughter and I are bookworms. I am not sure why my mother saved all her things from when she was young but she has all her old dolls and things too. Some are worth a lot and some are worth nothing which is surprising since they are all the same age. Even with the things worth a lot it doesn't matter if no one is looking to buy them. That's something that made a big difference when I used to sell on eBay.

@shaggin yes when i had to give up my house , i had over 400 books and almost as many dolls. i had kept and saved many for years. broke my heart but had to give most up over the past 12 yrs. had 5 kids and only 1 took up my passion for books. 1 of the boys almost did but he soon just read one author then quit. he loved Robert E. Howard. now he is back with not reading at all again. my oldest daughter is the book worm.

Cool I liked the show don't think I ever read the books though. How does he like the book so far? I am sure you like it more than him though.

He didn't complain at all while we read it but I haven't asked him yet what he thinks of it. I used to like watching the reruns of the show when I was little. I did not care for the books though as I did not like to read until I was in 4th grade. I am loving reading this book now though to my son!

I read one of the books but it was not this one. I did not finish it all as I did not care for it much. I am thinking I would enjoy finishing the series as I am so curious as to what happens.

I love the whole Little House on the Prairie series of books. I read them as a kid and then reread them as an adult. It is so interesting to learn about how they lived back then.

My son and I actually just finished this book today. I really want to read the rest. He won't want to but I may read them as I am curious to see what happens. It really is amazing to see how they lived back then!

I have been to the spot where Laura Ingalls Wilder was born which is just outside a tiny town called Pepin, MN.

@shaggin They have recreated the log cabin in which she was born. This is outside of town on a country road. In Pepin, there is a Laura Ingalls Wilder museum.

That is wonderful. Good that mom hung onto those books over the years. I hope he does read the whole lot. It seems a great read.

Yes we are very fortunate she still had these books so we could borrow them. My son was grumbling a lot about having to read them today. We read chapter 4-6 tonight. If we only had to read one chapter a night he would not give me such a hard time but three chapters on top of all his other work tonight was a lot. We are still a day behind so we will catch up tomorrow.

@shaggin that is a lot of reading in one night. It takes the enjoyment out of it. Hopefully you will be all caught up soon.

My daughter used to have me read to her all the time up until about 2 years ago. Even though she could read on her own at 4 she always liked me reading to her. I miss that. My son still lets me read to him sometime we when he has to or wants to read. My daughter is 12 and my son is 9.

That's a lovely illustration. You were under a bit of pressure there for a while weren't you? I'm glad you found a copy.

I asked him today what he thought of what we read yesterday and he said it was sad when they thought the dog drowned in the raging river and he said he was holding back from crying. Imfekt the same way so I was glad in the third chapter that their dog Jack found them!
