My buddy sat on the potty for me today!

I've written before about my young friend who has expressive aphasia. He is 2 1/2, and understands everything, but he doesn't speak.
Today, as I was changing his diaper (no poop), he tapped his hip twice and pointed to the potty and said something I couldn't understand.
I said, "Are you serious? You want to sit on the potty?" He nodded his head enthusiastically and said what would have been "yes" if he did consonants.
I helped him climb up and he sat there beaming. I said, "You're sitting on the potty, just like the biggest boys do!" He laughed and then concentrated. And then his face turned red. He was actually trying to poop!
No poop came out, but as I was helping get his pants, socks and shoes back on, he was giggling uncontrollably. He knew he had just done something really special.
I don't know when he's going to speak, but I predict he's going to be housebroken within a couple of months!

He seems to be responding well to more things. Best when housebroken.

@allknowing I think that's true. And some people just make them feel "safe," whatever that is.

Thank you for sharing this happy story. It reminds me of my nephew who rarely spoke when he was little because his two older sisters always spoke up for him. My sister-in-law finally had to put her foot down to make them stop so he could learn to speak up for himself. Even today, he's a man of few words.

My young friend may be pretty talkative when he finally starts speaking. He does like to express himself. But he does it in his own way. We shall see. He loves preschool, so I think he'll be with us for at least a couple more years.

Really moving forward, your young friend. Seems like he enjoys trying new things even though it can be difficult sometimes, but trying is all what life is about!

I think the little angel will not stop talking the day he learns to speak. I hope he does soon. It would be fun and exciting day for him.
