A Place for Everyone

Following on the theme of wood-working and furniture-making, Nannup in Western Australia was once a timber town and there is still a certain amount of activity there involving forestry and timber. There are fine furniture craftsmen within the town and small items in craft shops tempt tourists into buying gifts for others or for themselves. Slabs of jarrah or marri can be seen being utilised as park benches or counters in some of the small shops that line the main street. Here you can see a length of timber forming a counter in an outdoor dining area. I love how the natural curves of the timber create individual places for customers.

This is very interesting. I'd like to buy small crafts as the souvenirs

Tourists need small things to buy that aren't too heavy and don't take up too much room.

Another cool piece! That'd be great if they had matching benches or seats to go with that!

It's an interesting way to use those long timbers. I wonder how many nice shirts have been thorn by the unfinished wood on the front.

@JudyEv If it's not fully polished it is dangerous, I have lost a silk shirt on a rustic table in the United States.

It didn't look too rough but there is bound to be splintery bits.

It's nice, isn't it? Our bar counter is a bit similar so maybe I'd better do a post on that.

Ah. A counter. At first I thought it was a bench, because I didn't notice the stool. Cool!

Wow, that's an artistic bench they have there. So the makers make good money with them.

I like the furniture made of timber, which is environment friendly. The laminate ones always smell of formaldehyde.

The natural timber can really add a nice touch. It makes more sense to use wood then let so many things go to waste.

And it's particularly suitable here given that it's a timber town.

The edge has been left rough so it does look a bit like the work of a beaver. :)
