My missus and I are spending Valentines Night watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. We DVR the two nights of Group competition and watch them at our leisure. We usually root for the sporting group because we've always had sporting dogs. Now that we have Ace, we will also root for the terrier group. I just learned tonight that the Westminster Kennel Club show is the second oldest continuous sporting event in the United States. Can you guess what the oldest continuous sporting event in the United States is?

At first I wanted to say horse racing.. but football and baseball have been around for awhile, so has fishing, golf... No idea... I didn't think a dog show would be considered a sporting event.

@DWDavis There's more than one kind? Um, harness racing? Not that I even know what that is! LOL

@katsmeow1213 Oops. I should have been more specific. I meant which annual horseracing event has been held every year for so long it is the oldest continuously held sporting event in the US?

No clue! It is something we could look up, but you can just do another post about it and we'll come back to see what you tell us!

I didn't realise the Westminster Kennel Club was in the US. It sounds English.

My guess is the Indy 500,but I'm probably wrong. How is Swagger, the sheepdog from Colorado Springs doing? He rocks. And not just because he's from here.

The Indy 500 is old, and the oldest event is a race, but not an auto race.

The first four group events were last night, but we watched them tonight. The last three groups and Best in Show are on tonight, but we'll watch them tomorrow.

I guess that it is the dog race, it's a very old sport.

My wife remembers when the show is because it follows closely on the heels of the Super Bowl.

Oh my! No, I can't! I thought of hunting and fishing (very American), but couldn't think of any events. Then I thought of baseball, but that only goes back to the late 1800s. I did give up and read the comments.
