I've done my bit lately towards promoting Balingup, Western Australia, what with photos of bottle-top flowers, decorated bikes and mosaic benches. Another tourist attraction is this painted cow. Some years ago a number of artists and other prominent people were invited to decorate models of cows.
After being put on exhibition at a number of places around the south-west of the state, the models were sold to raise money for charity. The people of Balingup put up the money to purchase this beauty which now stands in the main street.

Last summer, when we were in Elkhart, Indiana, we notices painted elk on prominent street corners. Locally in Welland, Ontario, various parks have canoes that have been painted as art objects.

We did the same thing a few years back in our city, but it was with alligators. Local artists made like a 100 of them (life-size, like the cow in your photo), then they painted and decorated them in various colors and outfits. Then they auctioned them off to local businesses, and the money went to charity. It's really fun to drive around town trying to spot all the gators that businesses have displayed for people to admire!

Wow, that is pretty cool, I think they should do that to this cow at a ice cream shop I visited during a field trip I took in college. The place is called Young's Dairy and the picture is the cow on top of their sign. However, a storm caused damage to the cow, so it was taken down and I don't think it is up yet, so now is a good time to paint it and make it colorful.

For some reason, I'm not getting the picture. Might be this phone, since it seems everyone else saw it.

@JudyEv - Oh, yeah, I got it. And, naturally, up top now, too. Very interesting design. It's cool that they auction them off.

Thanks so much for showing me Australia. It is a place where I´ll never go as it is too far away and so the tickets are expensive. But I am learning about it through you. You are a good Ambassador!

Thank you - and it's my pleasure to show you at least some bits and pieces of it. I know tickets are very expensive and it's a great shame.

The others have all been auctioned off and gone off somewhere. There might be one or two at a vineyard somewhere but I don't know where all the others went.
