Warm winter pros and cons

United States
February 17, 2017 6:16am CST
When winter temps are warmer than normal those of us non-winter fans are very happy. We love saving money on heating bills. But now that we are moving into what seems to be an early spring one of the cons of that warmth is rearing its ugly head. Pros of warm winter - obviously the fact that heating bills were lower, thus saving money and our natural resources. Cons of warm winter - pollen - yes, trees are blooming early and pollen counts are making the news. Allergy sufferers beware and be prepared. @marlina We actually haven't used our shovel much this winter. We've only see about an inch every time it snows... I'm not complaining, greatful its been a light winter here...

We had the coldest January in 30 years and this will be very bad for our heating bill, but at least February seems warmer than usual and it's too early for the trees to bloom. The problem will start at mid-March.

Our pollen doesn't usually start this early so this is unusual. We did't have a very cold winter - just a few weeks worth of below 32 at night. Like last night but warming to 50s

cold and allergies at the same time, fun! I am sure there are some other downsides, to the earth and the dirt, and crops for this odd turn of events too

Oh no, not a high pollen count. Say it isn't so. No wonder my nose is running, I have sinus headaches, and I my eyes are running. I forgot all about the sinuses.

@HazySue The pollen count this am was only 214 which is high, but not extreme.

Oh my! Be safe and don't get sick. Always eat healthy food and drink. Vitamins. And I guess those with allergies should not leave their homes without a mask to avoid smelling the pollens.

Our fire season officially starts March 1 - a month earlier than ever before. Due to a series of shorter, warmer, drier winters.

@AbbyGreenhill I will give another example here. Here in Jerusalem it stays warm till about |November or December and then we should get rain. We may even get rain in October too. The only time we are suppose to get rain is in winter. If it is warm weather throughout the winter then we have a draught and we do not get the amount of rain were should get in winter and is not good for us.
