An old friend was put to rest today - RIP

I have said goodbye to grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles and even cousins and friends. We all have to say goodbye at some point in time and it's never easy.
Today I said goodbye to an old friend...Row as I called her. Let me tell you about Row.
I discovered her many years ago and just had to have her in my home...by my side, working selfishly year after year. She looks like she's been through the wringer and she has. She's been burned many times.
She was badly burned when I left her sitting on a nylon garment years ago - the burn mark in the martial is in the shape of her. Yes, Row was my Rownta iron. Recently she's been acting up - she heats up and cools off right in the middle of things.
I used her a lot when I worked but since retiring she was able to rest a little too. But she always did as I asked, she was a good iron back then. So I ordered a new version of Row and put old Row out with the trash. She will find her way to the landfill where she will probably live on another thousand years or longer...
Goodbye old friend, I will miss you Row!

Good luck finding a replacement. They don't make them like they use to.

Thanks for the laugh. i do own an iron but it doesn't get used often. its always happy to be dusted off to be used when I forget to get my husbands pants out of the dryer before they get wrinkled...Maybe two shirts and two pair of pants live in this house who have met my iron... Did I mention Iron and I are not friends...I try very hard to ignore him.

My parents never owned a dryer so everything had to be ironed..I was taught how to iron and I enjoyed it. I don't mind ironing, but I don't iron a lot....so maybe once a month I iron for a grand total of 20 mins or so.

@AbbyGreenhill Almost everything is made in China. When I was a child everything was made in Japan, now it's China.

Ah, that is so sad. I haven't used an iron in ages. I remember my grandmother using the old one on the wood burning stove when I was a young girl. Worked great.

@valmnz When you find a comfy chair it's worth fixing it up - an iron is replaceable LOL

A good iron can be hard to find. The last time I went in search of a new iron they had then attached to the shelf in the store. How can you possibly buy an iron without trying it out for weight and comfort.

I ordered online so I cant feel it - but I know they aren't heavy. Heck I could have gone to Wallyworld and bought an iron for the same money but not a good brand. Yeah Amazon.

R.I.P. Row, may your time in the landfill be full of peace and hopefully, with durable nose-plugs:(
If you see our old washing machine, please give my dear friend thanks, for so many good years of service:(

I feel the same way about my 20 year old TV with the small (tiny) scene by today's standards. No bells and whistles, just an appliance that works reliably when turned on, always providing a clear picture, and a good friend to my out of date VCR. May Row find future happiness buried in that landfill
