Do you type with your index finger?

Hello everyone! Now a days touch screen smart phones, tablets, laptop and even PCs are available and many of us use it. I have observed that on touch screen you do not need to type each and every letter for a word, if you type few letters, likely words appear on the screen and you could touch the word of your requirement and could complete your sentence. Do you use touch screen devices for mylotting? Also, those of you who use conventional key boards, do you type by one finger/thumb or you know the proper typewriting?

I don't use any touch screen devices for myLot. I find it very slow and small to look at. I type better and faster (with all 10 fingers on the keyboard) with my laptop. What about you?

I know you are faster than what other could imagine about you ( I meant you are a fast typist). I understand that you know conventional typewriting, therefore, you could type faster on your laptop, in comparison to any touch screen device. I know conventional typing and I prefer to work on PC or Laptop, but now I have made myself habitual with touch screen phone and tablet also and I could go for mylotting on touch screen devices also.

@Jlyn10 It is appreciable that when you are outside, you just observe the surroundings and love to enjoy the world around you. I also feel that devices such as smart phones should not unnecessarily be used, when one is at a public place.

I understand that if you use touch screen, it saves time to type words. Do you know conventional typewriting, which is done on the key board or you just search the letters on touch screen and then make words?

I am not one for upgrading as I get what I want from old devices unlike many who have these gadgets and do not use them to their optimum level. I can type with all my fingers at great speed.

It is good to hear that you know conventional typewriting and you could type with great speed. If you feel comfortable while using your existing devices, then there is no need to go for updradation.

@LadyDuck That is why you are the topper here. The one who is leading the brigade here, with maximum number as reflected on your activity counter. I do not think anyone is remotely near you. Your activity count as of now is 75492, which is mammoth and I am sure it is not easy to touch.

@JudyEv Oh! I see you do not take the help of what is called auto-text, you love to type the entire word and you are pretty fast in it. You are right that sometimes the words suggested by touch screen device are different from our choice.

@dpk262006 You mean where you type several letters and it suggests a word? No, I turned that off. I type too fast for that to be much help. I don't like it telling me what words I should be using. I'd rather make my own mistakes.

When i am using my cellphone for mylotting, i use my index finger. But if i am using a laptop or desktop, i use more than one finger though it is not the proper way of typing.

It means that you have not learnt the conventional typewriting, where one could type without seeing the key board. Nonetheless, I have observed that most of the users use their index finger to type and some of them type at a pretty fast speed. When on laptop, you search the keys and then type with the help of the fingers of both the hands.

@dpk262006 When I say "type by touch" I mean what they taught use in typing class, putting your fingers on the "home row" and type using all of your fingers and thumbs. Right now, I'm not concerned about speed as I am accuracy and not having to look at my hands.

Most of the time I use my thumb to type on the touch screen devices because it is accurate than typing by index fingers. But I still find it slow to type from mobile phone or tablet. This is why I post in Mylot by computer.

I actually had a class of how to type the write way twith all fingers in the right spot and without looking at the keyboard. I was actually good at it. Although every once in a while i need to look at the board to make sure i am hitting the right buttons i am a fast writer because i use all of my fingers and not just the index fingers. Truth be told it is annoying seeing people write with only the index fingers. I cant stand it but it is how they type so i cant do anything about it.

I am currently using my phone for mylot. When I am on my laptop or another computer I type the proper way including using the home row keys. My friend had no idea what those marks on the J & F were for and that shocked me. I took a lot of computer classes in middle school so typing in second nature to me. We used to have these orange slips that went over the key board so we couldn't see the letter to help use learn how to type without looking. It is one skill I am glad I picked up on because it is handy when you are taken notes in class or for work.

It means you know conventional typewriting because you have mentioned about home row keys. Your friend could not understand the haphazard letter on key board because she would not have learnt the proper typing. Yes, I agree with you that if one knows typing, you could type fast and with confidence.

@dpk262006 I founded it shocking that she didn't know them since her & I are kind of from the generation of technology and they stressed hard in the school systems in NC. Most students in public schools here as early as Pre-K don't use paper they have their own personal laptop/tablets to use at school.

@dpk262006 I know proper typewriting ! I took a class in school for it - about when I was maybe age 13-14? And this was on an old fashioned typewriter. I can type without looking at the keyboard - and I do type fast. And so, I HATE thumb typing on the phone - it really, really slows me down and I cannot stand it. I know of the "word" thing, but I don't use it (not sure why, I just don't).

It is great to hear that you have learnt the art of typewriting in your teens and you are a pretty fast typist. Yes, you are right that thumb typing on the smart phones or say touch screen phones is no match conventional typewriting. What do you mean by "word" thing? Good morning to you (though it is evening of Monday here).

@much2say It is called auto-correct mode. If it is turned on, in that case when you type complete words/options appear on the screen, even if you type out few letters.

On iPad and other devices, I understand that either you use your index finger or thumb to type. If you type with two middle fingers on office laptop, it means that you do not know conventional typewriting, whereby one types without looking at the keyboard. I am not doubting your speed.
