What Can I Safely Discuss?

Reading different discussions....adding my two cents here and there....annoying other Mylotters with my opinions.....hmmmm.....what can I safely discuss? My earnings aren't high enough to live in an exclusive neighbourhood (I'd be considered riffraff), besides they discourage chicken farms in residential neighbourhoods. So I guess that means I shouldn't plan to move anytime soon. Suggesting that news stories might be exaggerated or slanted doesn't seem to inspire discussion, just annoyance with my ignorance of what is happening in the world around me. Sewing....that's always been a safe topic. Here goes! A few weeks ago as I was sharing the photos of my valentines placemats I mentioned that I would be creating a wallhanging for St Patrick's day. It was completed over the past weekend, and is now hanging on my sewing room door.

I don't discuss politics or even weigh in on those who do. I skip all political posts. Mine are mostly my daily activities.

@Morleyhunt Yes, it's pretty safe! I have a lot of practice staying off politics, my parents were both very vocal and active in the opposite party!

I love them, we do not celebrate St Patrick's Day in Switzerland, but finally I could, I am not obliged to celebrate only what the others celebrate. Is it the 17th of March if I remember well.

@Morleyhunt It's a good excuse, I do the same, a special day is an excuse to dress a nice table and have a special dinner.

I don't really observe any St Patrick's Day celebration, but it gives me an excuse to make and hang a new wallhanging.

As someone who is 1/2 Irish, I have to say that the picture lured me in on this discussion. I always enjoy reading your discussions because they are "real" to me, and not foreign, you're just a down to earth lady, who has a good relationship with her sewing machine and the chickens that lay the eggs!

@Morleyhunt Are you alluding to the fact that.... the chicken came before the egg? This is an addition to my comment......I was reading some recent "hot" discussions and understand your comment regarding riffraff now. And I think that I might also have a better understand of your sister's discussion from yesterday. We all bring something different and unique to this site, and we should celebrate that for the most part and not let it divide us or upset others by it.

Why thank you! I'm going to try to get a clearer photo tomorrow when it's daylight. By the way, my husbands chickens don't lay eggs, they become those Pintys ready to eat chicken you find in the grocery store.

@Juliaacv I was referring to the fact that we are involved with chicken production....egg production was left behind....for my husband in 1999, for me, I never dealt with eggs.

@Morleyhunt I hope they are positive changes.

@just4him no, I can't say they are positive changes. He's 90 years old. I'm realistic enough to know he won't go on forever and watching him deteriorate is agonizing. One of my brothers shakes his head and asks....where will it end....I told him, but he doesn't want to accept that my father is dying...slowly maybe....but ultimately he does not have a lot of time left in this mortal plane.

Today it seems that no matter what anyone says or does, someone else will have an issue with it. Your wall hanging is lovely.

No it's my own fault. I see people making stupid and rash comments.....then call them on it, instead of minding my own business. I have trouble patting someone on the back and saying , dear, dear......when I'm thinking.....you idiot, didn't you learn anything the first ten times you made that stupid mistake. The wallhanging was a fun project.

I shared the photo of the finished wallhanging. Sometimes the post loads before the photo. This happened yesterday with my sunrise.

@Morleyhunt I have tried and tried and wind up tossing the project to the side and later on donating the material to the Goodwill.

Thank you. There is more practice than talent involved. If you practice enough (rip out a lot) you either improve or give up.

@Morleyhunt I always start a project and then abandon it if I can't finish it in one sitting. I have like a few knitting projects that I had started that's on the shelf now.

We are surrounded by chicken houses I hate it when the wind blows our way.

We find that the smell is only offensive the last week or so before shipping and then the wind must be from the north to smell the barns at the house,

Talk about anything, people don't always like the responses they get, but it comes with posting, and most of us like to discuss things. Just enjoy... Like the wall hanging.

Sometimes I'm not feeling tactful....I call things as I see them and when people do stupid things and then ask for opinions or announce it to the world, I'm not inclined to pat them on the back and say....oh you poor mistreated person.

Thank you @JudyEv I would not have taken offence. I have a thicker skin than that...good thing....or I'd always be walking around with my nose out of joint.

@Morleyhunt right now too, i am more into sharing the rose and orchid garden here in my house, and the mischievousness of our dogs. i think it is in the manner of how i post my discussions, like you sharing your products of quilts.

Your welcome to move into my neighbourhood, but be aware there is the occasional odour coming from the poultry barns. I'm really pleased with my door hanging. This is a great place for me to display my projects. I get to see them whenever I go to my sewing room.

I'm not sure....is there more than one Patrick? If someone is offended well just call it my green shamrock wallhanging.....surely that can't be offensive.
