Do you know what I really wish was in the Guidelines?

As the very first statement...in bold letters...which you would think it wouldn't need to be there...but if you have been a member here very long, you'll understand that it should be:
myLot is for Original Content written by you
I really do not get the reasoning behind people thinking myLot should give them anything at all when they post things they have copied or (as one user told me earlier) 'remembered' seeing.
Are there sites out there that pay you to post copied content?
If there are, by all means...please share them with us!
But please realize...myLot is not one of them.

This is probably a very good idea. Then they can't plead ignorance.

@megatron777 They need to spell it out because they do encourage people who have another language to share here.

@megatron777 No but as they stand perhaps they are a bit difficult for some to understand.

I know that a lot of people here take the time to write up all kinds of interesting content so if anyone just copies and pastes then of course that is unfair and also not per the guidelines. It is good to keep this as a reminder.

I'll have to look, but I think it's pretty explicitly spelled out in the Terms. I was reading through there to see if they'd brought back the easy peasy account cancel link... nope, but lots of other information that's good for a refresher every once in a while.
Oh, and that 'remembered' seeing thing is hilarious. You mean, remembered seeing like Kavya Viswanathan 'remembered' those passages she lifted from Meg Cabot's novels? Or like Melania Trump 'remembered' the bits that were stolen from Michelle Obama's speech? Or that kid I caught online in high school whose 'fanfiction' story was actually an exact copy of a published novel, aside from the names being changed?
Puh-leez. Some of us might have been born at night, but it was NOT last night.

Yeah, but it's hard enough getting them to look at the guidelines...they'd never make it through the Terms

@JolietJake Very, very true. The Guidelines would be a better place for that information to be.

It would be nice if there was more to go on especially when a New person comes in here and decides to start a New discussion. This is a little better than a one liner and such, but not good. I have heard someone say in Neume that you can copy something and get paid, but not sure. In reality this site is more for originality and interaction. Yeah you could talk about something in the news, etc as long as you are talking about it from your own view instead.

If people would read the rules and not try to game the system, they ould do good here. If they think they will make a ton of money, they will disappointed.

I've said for a long time the guidelines need a re-write.
Also I think in order for new members to join there should be a requirement to read the guidelines/faq's and have a tick box to say you've read and understood them.
Just like there is when you download any free software...they get you to tick a box to say you have read and understood terms and conditions.

@Mike197602 I realize the intention but as they say, you can lead a person to read something but it doesn't mean they will

You can tell someone to read, check off that they did - but that doesn't mean they did or that they 'get it'....

@AbbyGreenhill its better than the current system where people don't have to even visit the help section.

Most people here going after money, they try to earn money by posting anything.... They dont care whether it is copied or not.
Sometimes I also use links or some paragraphs from wikipedia to explain more, But I mention it there... Is that also wrong?

An article/discussion may use attributed quotes as a small part of it as long as the majority is written by you

Thanks JJ... so far I have not posted anything copied content..
Regarding rules, I was not aware of that and yesterday I got a chat message stating that the rule says I should not use "ur" (Your).. after that I found out the guidelines and trying to follow them..

When will they ever learn?

Plagiarism is like stealing, maybe it is not clear to everyone that posting someone else's work as their own is not allowed.
I attended a specific course in my uni about this subject, it was part of the degree and they emphasized so much on the significance of plagiarism in all of our work (online and offline).

Fortunately the style of much plagiarised content often just doesn't ring true as a member-written post (here and elsewhere) and so they are more easily spotted.
As far as the guidelines are concerned: you know how sometimes you cannot order something online unless you tick a box that says you have read the terms and conditions? Perhaps if they had something like that on here before someone could post for the first time then maybe about 5% more people might at least have a glance at the rules.

I've just realised I can recognise a post written by you just by the title. You must be becoming very predictable.
