I'm Keeping This One

I used up a few more pieces of the fabric I inherited from my mother.
Random pieces of denim and a corduroy print seemed to be a pleasing combination. A couple of inside pockets to hold my keys, my smartphone and some tissues and the bag is complete.
There have been at least a dozen bags made from the scraps and I've given all of them away.
This one, I'm keeping. I think it will suit me quite nicely.

I think I could get a lot of use out of this bag. I'm going on holiday next week. It will hold all of my purse stuff plus my iPad.

@Morleyhunt I just love bags, I like to have a variety of them for different purposes. When we get settled I am going to try to learn to sew. Would you recommend getting a pattern for something like this to start on? Its been such a long time since my home ec classes or my 4-H training, but some techniques are still very fresh in my memory.

A lot of these scraps would have been destined for the trash, but it's hard for me to throw fabric away so then I. We'd to figure out if I can make something useful out of it.

@Juliaacv when you're ready I can send you the pattern.....commercial patterns are ridiculously priced. I look for free online, or library books or magazines......

It's really nice! I have always enjoyed sewing but have not even set up my machine here in Florida. I miss it.

@Jeanniemaries often the tangled thread is an improperly threaded machine. That seems to be when I gave the most problems.

@Morleyhunt It's very relaxing when all goes well. My thread tends to tangle a lot in the machine, I never quite mastered tension.

A lot of the scraps I inherited were not suitable for anything practical. I've made an assortment of bags.

Thanks. This one went together quickly. I finished it on my mothers old trade machine. After a long wait it's finally working...smooth as silk.

It's been a while since I've sewn anything but I do remember that denim and corduroy are a good fabric combination.

@Morleyhunt - Yes the feel of the material is nice but it also very durable. You can keep stuff for years and years!!

@cmoneyspinner I had a denim purse back in the mid '70's. Now I'll have another.

@Morleyhunt I do not wear jeans, but I have many worn out jeans of my husband.

I have a purpose for all those half worn out jeans as well. They aren't a priority at the moment.

@garymarsh6 that has been my goal....to use what I can. I have given many of my family members a bag as a memory of mom. At our next get together a few more of the cousins will be able to choose one.

Throwing away bits of fabric is so difficult....but....I also don't want to be buried under the stuff.

I had another that I considered keeping but this one is more the colours I tend to wear and use around me.

Glad your using the fabric. Its looks really nice. Pockets are great to get out the items you need to use often.

The pattern calls for four big pockets...I make six with one of them being just the right size to hold my cellphone.

Years ago Tony paid his Aunt 20.00 and gave her a leopard print fabric to make me one of these purses, I never got my purse but I seen her sister with my fabric.
