Freedom of Speech and Expression: Are they only limited to spoken words?

I don't mind long comments/responses. I encourage them actually. We are here to talk and share our thoughts. So, why censor someone else's? The healthy debates that we see here sometimes are not comprised of one word or one line answers. The comment exchange there is lengthy as it should be. Besides nowhere in the guidelines it is written that long responses, comments or discussions are prohibited. Short comments, responses or discussions on the other hand as mentioned in guidelines: Discussions, responses or comments that offer little or no value- Answers like "I don't know" or "I don't care" help no one and will be removed. Personally, I suggest that snatch up any new knowledge or information you can receive reading such posts. If you are not interested, there is always an option to move on to the next post/comment/response. There are plenty of those around. P. S. Good night folks for now. I will get back to you tomorrow. Have a nice day/night! (Photo: Quote by Guru Nanak Dev Ji)
This is where you will find out what kinds of behavior are accepted and unaccepted on myLot. When in doubt, remember the Golden Rule!

@amadeo I do that is why the post was written. I tend to answer in details at times if the topic asks for it. I don't see why that is a problem. But some just complain.

@amadeo Basically it is allabout interaction. If you are getting that then it doesn't matter how long your post is.

I don't mind long responses or comments either. In fact I appreciate that someone took the time to craft their thoughts. You're right - it's not in the guidelines - but I think some people only have a certain amount of attention span here and prefer the shorter route.

@much2say And that is quite alright if they prefer short responses. I myself sometimes tend to bypass long posts because I am short of time or patience. As long as it is okay with the guidelines set up, it is not a problem

@Daljinder I am one of those people who tend to get long winded at times . So if I get too long, you have my permission to tell me to shut up . That's in my guidelines .

@much2say LOL! I have to go see and check the validity of your statement. Nah! You are fine. I am not telling anyone to shut up.............unless they have some "issues" and are asking to be kicked out of here

I do not know about you but we were taught about the importance of precis writing - managing to write whatever one had to say within a few sentences. I always thought it was better than covering the same thing using many more sentences.

@Daljinder There are sites where articles are required in the manner you have suggested. But as you know at myLot it is a different story.

@allknowing And that's where you go wrong because we are following rules set up by myLot which encourages interactions. There is no grammar rule. No perfect English language rule. And also if we were able to enjoy a movie just through its summary/ synopsis/ plotline then what's the point of spending millions in making movies in the first place?

@allknowing I have and do work at iWriter. I know how perfect the language and grammar is needed there alongwith unique and informative content within the mentioned word limit. But myLot has not put any word limit restrictions. Rest as it fits depending on an individual.

Who said that long responses are not allowed? I think long responses are always encouraged provided that short have some information. I don't mind the length of responses as sometimes one liner comment too have some meaning embedded in it.

@Daljinder I think longer and unmeaningful responses are discouraged, but not meaningful ones. What do you say?

@sjvg1976 This thing always pops up every now and then where few members say and discourage long responses or posts. And yes one liners could be meaningful too and could incite responses and comments too.

Sometimes I might say something like 'sorry, can't help. Hope someone else can'. I wonder if these ever get removed? I've never gone back to check.

@Daljinder I doubt I'd even find out if a post was removed. As a general rule I never check back.

@JudyEv Its difficult to keep track of every comment we made unless we get reply back and are notified. I never check back either.

@JudyEv I don't suppose they get removed unless reported and admin sees them as a problem. I don't think anyone would report such a response either. Just my thought.

to me what matters is the content and the intent, not the length. adding details helps a lot.

Freedom of Speech and Expression: Are they only limited to spoken words? No. The words can written or communicated via sign language or braille, drawn in picture form, etc. There are all kinds of way to be free to say what's on your mind. I never read the guidelines. But since I've been here for about a year and have not been banned, I figure I must be following the rules.

@Daljinder Yes. I'm kidding. I have more to say. I do agree that short answers can be a bit disappointing and feel like the MyLotter wasn't putting much effort into it. But even then I still appreciate the answers every time. Even if I don't agree with them. Like you said, we should be able to speak about whatever we wish too. Only time I start to get annoyed with that is when people speak in a very disrespecting manner. I have trouble tolerating rude behaviour or have a mentality of showing disrespect or unfairness to others.

@VivaLaDani13 I do find it difficult to answer someone who will answer in one or two words, especially if I don't know them well. With people I know it is different coz I can think up things to talk and continue the conversations. You know that I love rude people! They are my favorite. I have trouble eating if I don't come across at least one such people.

Personally i like long responses. There is more of a chance that I'll find something to respond to. However I avoid posts with just one or two line and falls back on everyday mundane answer. But to actually find a post with a little depth, that I can actually SHARE something makes for a more exciting being here in myLot. I just ignore people who visit my post and grunt'Okay". how do you respond to that? I try not to criticize / censor anyone...so I just walk away. Who knows? It may not be laziness...just a case of language challenge
