Diary Wednesday 8th March 2017 A day of unexpected pleasant surprises. I headed to the railway station to collect my advance tickets for my trip to Birmingham next month, as booking and buying them online a month in advance is cheaper than buying them right before travelling. Once purchased, they have to be collected from the railway station itself. It is easy to do, but time consuming. After that I went to the job club which is at the local community centre, so while there I asked the lovely receptionist about a pass slip for the food banks as my food and income supplies are running critically low. The food bank itself isn’t open until Tuesday and I now have a permission slip to use that, but in addition, as she gets in the groceries for the canteen she promised to get in some surplus food to provide me with a free bag of food which I can collect on Friday morning. How wonderful. Diary Thursday 9th March 2017 I was on a voluntary work training day today, where we looked at how to chair formal committee meetings and handle attendees who were shy, or over-bearing or outright disruptive. We got to role play at being chair and disrupting the meetings in different ways was as much fun as it was challenging. The room used for the class was quite high up and as there as a clear blue warm sky out I got some good photos of the city including this one that includes Preston North End’s football stadium. Back home I got my post which finally included some letters of proof of my welfare earnings I need to share with the council. I should have received this document weeks ago. Arthur Chappell

I honestly think they make things difficult in hopes people will give up

@Jessicalynnt yes, that seems to be their entire strategy - so nasty and greedy

@Jessicalynnt yes, they won't let go until you buy a policy and again they hang on until you give up trying to claim on one

@LadyDuck As @Jessicalynnt says, to get people to give up or fill in forms incorrectly and therefore not get everything they are actually entitled to - it is quite insideous

@arthurchappell I fear that this is true. I see so many times public officers doing this in Italy. It is a way not to give you what you deserve or hope to get.

You would be pleased to have some good things happening. I don't think there has been too much lately has there?

Glad it was a couple of good days for you. Isn't it amusing(not at all really) how when the info you need comes from such a office they can take their own good time but, if it is something you have to get in they give you a deadline?

Advance ticket savings can certainly be worthwhile. Do you think that stroppy meeting training would have helped at the writers' workshop? (From what you posted at the time I doubt it!)
