Lies at the Dealership!

A few days ago, I called 2 different Honda dealerships to compare the price for touch up paint and to get an idea of how much touch up paint would be since it's been awhile since I've bought touch up paint.
Let's say:
- Dealership A
- Dealership B
Dealership A said, $13.75 but it's not on hand so I'll have to come in and order.
I called Dealership B, and the guy said he had just sold the last of my color and it'd be $8.75 and to come in and order.
Cool, cheaper and near my house so we decided to go yesterday to dealership B. We got there and the same guy goes oh darn, I just sold your color a second ago! Right... you said that same exact line on the phone. Then he tells me it's $18.75. I told him he said it was $8.75 the other day. I even showed him my call log.
I don't deal with liars. I won't be going back. I am not deaf because I said so around $10 bucks with tax, he said yes.
I'll be ordering from a more reliable dealership. Every phrase that came out of the mans mouth was a lie! They didn't have the color in stock now all of a sudden he sold it a second ago again? Hmm...

Touch up paint is a waste of money until you come to sell the car....unless you are ocd about the car condition leave cosmetics until you sell/trade in.
Spend money on touch ups today and scratch it tomorrow and pay for more.

@infatuatedbby If you got rear ended and got paid from their insurance put in the new bumper.
I'd do that rather than pocketing the money and potentially spending more in the long term.

It's bad enough when these guys give you one of their sorry lines . . . but he got caught giving you the same line twice - and worse
! Yah, I wouldn't go back to a place like that either - I'm sure it's not the first time he's done it.

That is worse on his half! He was just so used to saying the simple phrase, oh I just sold it! Making me desperate in need of paint or something?
Then he goes well do you still want to buy it? No thanks, I'll do my business elsewhere. :)

Was your fiancé with you when you went to the dealership? If he wasn't, I can see why everything they were saying to you was lies. Car dealerships and auto repair shops are infamous for being deceptive to women, because they think women don't know anything about cars or repairs. It's pretty pathetic.

He was.
He mentioned to them, that he heard that man say $8.75. And that they're a bunch of liars. Especially oh we just sold that - the old man said that to everyone.
And a piece of his mind then we walked out

@infatuatedbby Well I'm glad your fiancé was there to back up your story. It's probably better to just avoid that dealership, as it seems they do not practice ethical business standards.

Screw the dealerships. Go through a locally owned business. He'll be glad you did, and treat you as such.

What about a local body shop? I've gotten way better service from mine than I do from the dealership here. The only things I've ever had done at the dealer have been warranty and recall repairs, otherwise I take my car elsewhere. Although I do like the service I've gotten from Anderson Toyota in Lake Havasu City... I've actually driven all the way there for service on occasion just because I like them better than the guys 5 minutes down the road.

I was rear ended a few months ago, I received a check for the exact cost of repairs but I am just going the cheaper route with just touch up paint and not getting it fixed since it wasn't anything major.
It doesn't bother me that much enough to get the entire bumper fixed. I tried getting quotes for spot treatment and they all want to repaint the entire original bumper which is annoying!
I never thought about asking a local body shop if they had my color! Thanks!

@infatuatedbby My car is (cosmetically) a wreck since I had a deer run into the side of it on the interstate a few years ago. I didn't see the point in spending $5k+ on the repairs, so I didn't. As long as it's mechanically sound, I'm happy with it. Eventually I might go pull the parts I need from the salvage yard, but it really doesn't matter that much to me.

@owlandbutterfly My dad got his fixed, it was less than $100 when he hit a deer. Now that place charges a leg & arm. But yeah, as long as the car is mechanically sound, I'd be happy too!

I wouldn't go back and certainly the man lied to you. Its not good when a business tries to change the price and give you the run around. I find it happens to me more than my husband.

I hate it too! I mean promoting your product is fine. But lying to the customers and making them travel plus the gas it will make me really angry.

Yes, it was annoying to be lied out. Luckily I did not drive too far out of my way since it was nearby.

I think people at car dealerships in general are taught to think "idiot" when they see or get a call from a woman. There are so few women sales reps at car dealerships that it's really difficult to get past that way of thinking.

I wonder if you can buy it online - have you searched that way? When you buy a new vehicle always ask for touch-up paint - we do and you get it free.

I never asked for touch up paint when we bought the car new. We did get lock nuts for free. I will see online thank you :)

I hate going to dealerships for that reason also.
I even pointed it out to him that same phrase on the phone and now the same thing, oh it just sold a second ago.
Lies!

Man! Oh! Man! You sure have to do your homework now days. And, I am so glad you didn't just go ahead and go for the higher price. I think that is what they think. Get people in there and they won't want to mess with finding another dealer and will just go for the higher price. Grrrr!
