A Case of Child Abuse

I believe it was in 2012 when I first read this story in the Atlanta Journal. The most terrible case of child abuse I have ever heard and it happened in Paulding county. A county right next to ours. A mother and step father kept this boy locked up in his room and fed him just enough to keep him alive. He had two sisters but neighbors didn't know the boy existed. When he was 18 years old the parents bought him a ticket to California, pasted a list of shelters for homeless people on his leg and put him on the bus with $200. He was found at the bus station in California wandering around sick and starving not knowing what to do. He weighted 82 pounds and was skin and bones. Police brought him back to Paulding county and arrested the parents. The boy was placed in the home of a wonderful family who took good care of him. In spite of his horrible parents he was a fast learner and is now in college studying to be an engineer. He is still living with his foster family. His Parents were sentenced to 20 years each in prison, but I saw in the Journal that they were coming up for parole after serving only five years. The boy is very concerned and wants them kept in prison. His lawyers will be fighting to keep them there. I think they should serve their full 20 years. In fact I think they should have gotten a life sentence. What is your opinion? Do you think they should be paroled after abusing their son in such a horrible way.

How can they possibly be let out after only five years? That wouldn't be justice at all. They deserve to serve their full term.

I hope they have to serve the full time and that's not enough for what this poor boy suffered.

They should spend more time in jail than the time the boy stayed locked up in his room and add a few more years for the abuse, mental torture plus the miscellaneous other things they might have committed

What was the reason ? Why did they do that with their son? I think they should be kept behind the bars for 20 years for this horrible crime. I think the kids most trust on their parents when the parents do such thing then where the kids will go . Whom they will trust?

@RubyHawk that's really surprising how did they manage to hide him from others for so many years

This boy had no chance to tell anyone.Nobody knew he was there. He wasn't sent to school and his sisters never said they had a brother.

They should be rotten in prison. What kind of parents are they? So evil...

@RubyHawk I can't understand why some parents treated their child differently. It shouldn't be like this.

No they should not be paroled, the minimum they should stay in prison is 18 years, the same number of years they made this poor boy suffer.

@RubyHawk Five years is ridiculous, they must pay for what they did.

5 years is not nearly enough time for what they did.

Typo alert: IN such a terrible way. I can't imagine doing that. Do they have mental health issues? I'd say feed 'em bread and water for the full 20 years. But most cons I've worked with serve half-time for good behavior. That would be 10 years. I am REALLY glad the kid is doing OK.

Thanks for the alert. They sound to me as if they have a mental problem.

I hope they are made to serve the full 20 years! It breaks my heart hearing these things. The worst story I ever heard about child abuse was in a book called "A boy called It" by Dave Peltzer. I think that was the title of the book. It was painful to read as the abuse was so bad.

@RubyHawk It ruins the child for the rest of their lives. At least in the case of Dave Peltzer he went on to do speeches and write books.

I hope they spend the whole 20 years in prison and that won't be enough for what they did

they should certainly be detained as long as possible and prevented from ever getting near children again - the poor guy is lucky to have survived at all

They should never get out in my opinion. I love children and it makes me sick when anyone abuses a child.
