Bits and Pieces March 30th

From the newspaper yesterday – She's sorry. She's a University student. She was "Running Around The Bay, a huge race in Hamilton Ontario that thousands run every spring and this woman was hurting so grabbed a ride back to the beginning and walked across the finish line and accepted the 8th winner prize....guess who won't be allowed to run it ever again... Who does that sort of thing????
I had a dentist apt yesterday and took my camera and visited Lake Ontario. A park near where I once lived is the perfect place to get to the shore and walk and take photos.
I stopped at my best friends house and she made me lunch and we had an hours of chit chat. It was lovely.
Painted the afternoon away and hope to deliver some slate tomorrow and some more next week to another store.
I might cross the border tomorrow just to see how hard it is now that Trump is in power.
All the schools in Canada and the Scouts are not crossing the border for any reason because Canada opens their hearts to their young people and don't want any embarrassed by being turned away because they are the “wrong” nationality or color for America.
I am waiting impatiently for Trump to be IMPEACHED!
What's going on around you?

@LadyDuck I went over this morning and it was a lot less busy for a Saturday but very easy for me, no unusual questions.

@amadeo I'm sure it is going to happen or just wishing... - won't be the first and probably not the last. - this from the internet - and I hope all realize what an awful president he is...
Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives, but acquitted by the Senate. Richard Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.

I have no idea, but just the idea of faking a win turns my stomach. It will follow her forever, I can't understand why anyone would do something so silly and so stupid in the long run.

@PainsOnSlate Some mistakes are SO awful/bad in whatever way that they just stay with a person forever.

@paigea on a plane to Alaska last fall I sat by a man who was pretty chatty and it turned out we knew each other and were in the same grade in high school and graduated together... I didn't remember him but after talking with him I remembered him...he married a good friend of mine..small world.

@PainsOnSlate Oh, that is interesting. I still have a friend I met in grade 1. Sadly, she lives in Ontario.

I hope they both got caught. You have to wonder why anyone would run a race if they are going to just cheat.

What a terrible thing for that runner to do. The lunch with your friend sounds nice.
Does painting ever feel like a chore for you, or does it relax you? I have always wanted a job that I loved. Painting seems to be your way of earning. Does it feel like work?

@PainsOnSlate I consider what I do from home, work at home. I am earning an income and claiming it all on my taxes. I must admit that, sometimes, I really miss going out to lunch with colleagues and meetings with families. Of course, when I was working outside of the home, going out to lunch was not a big deal to pay for. Now, we pinch our pennies tightly.

@Shellyann36 My husband is retired now, still works in the summer but he is around all the time, we do things together and he does all the cooking so life is good for me for working at home.

Because I have a studio in my house, it sort of feels like a job but it is something I loved doing. I listen to books on CD while I paint so I don't get bored... So much better than leaving the house to go to work. I've been doing it for many years and it works for me.

That woman reminds me of a horse race a long time ago. It was very foggy and one of the jockeys took his horse into the trees beside the course, and waited until the rest of the runners came round again. He then rejoined the race and won it with his fresh horse. That's a tale my father-in-law used to tell (he was a jockey), but I can't vouch for it's truth!
I'm in Spain at the moment having a lovely time.

The weather here is Spain is perfect - mid 70s, just right. We go home on Tuesday, our month will be up by then.

So glad to hear you are in Spain again. Enjoy the weather. Interesting story and if it is true, how does a rider do that? I would be so disgusted with myself I could never do that...

No money at all the first 5 wins the cash, hers was just an honorary badge or her name in the over 150 years of history of this race but it has been removed and she is banned from ever running again. I just looked up some details and one other was removed for cheating too...Why bother running if you are going to cheat...I guess she thought she could get away with it but the details they use in the race will not allow anyone to cheat.

Regarding your first paragraph, I can understand to a small degree what she did for I did something almost or equally as idiotic when I was in the sixth grade. Sometimes we make decisions without fully working them through. She's older than I was and she should have figured it out quicker, but maybe her pain was obliterating her sense of what's right?
What I did was forgot all about doing some homework due that day and a friend had to run somewhere instead of attending class when it started so she gave me her homework paper. I tried to copy some of hers onto my own notebook but wasn't doing very well and ended up erasing her name at the top and adding mine instead.
Later after the homework was handed in and my friend was by that time in class again, the teacher asked her where her paper was. She said that I was to turn it in and I had to confess in front of the whole class. I suppose I could have lied and said that I lost it, but I didn't even think about doing that. That was the one and only time i ever did anything like that and I can still feel how embarrassed I was.
Is the Canadian/ American border having problems too? I thought it would mainly be near the southern states that the work would be started on that front.
My sisters spend a considerable amount of time going to plays in Strafford, which is maybe about an hour or so over the border from Detroit or Flint area. I went once, but since I didn't drive I don't remember much of the drive itself. I'll have to ask them how they fare now from how it was before. They are Caucasian, but if there are problems I'm sure it would slow everyone down.
I wanted Obama impeached, so, sorry, but I'm not with you on this one.

I can understand you doing that as a child, children have no filters, we all do stupid things as children. The fact this woman had run the race before several times, she said she wasn't thinking and actually ran across the line...but accepting the prize show that she has no filters as an adult... I voted for him twice and wish I had ant=other chance ...we can agree to disagree.

I am sure that many Canadians think things have gotten crazy in the U.S. since the election of Trump. We are having beautiful weather here in California ... both the actual weather as well as the political climate. Our state is doing many things to maintain our quality of life for our citizens, regardless of what happens in Washington. Of course, we will be affected by Washington, but our state government is working hard to minimize the damage Washington can cause.

Canada is scratching their heads wondering how anyone could have voted for an obvious idiot. There are daily news in the papers about the last stupid thing he has done...I'm sure until he's gone it will happen. Canada is not his friend, along with a lot of countries that are scratching their heads. As an American living in Canada, I appreciate their input, and feel uncomfortable for my friends and family living in the states.

They are stopping lots of Canadians especially if they have the "unwelcome" nationally or if the color of there skin suspicious. There are some forms to be filled in and other documents to carry for some. I on the other hand, am an American as well as Canadian, I carry two passports - the US one is to get into the country and the Canadian is to get into Canada...the license plate on my vehicle is Canadian. I have duel citizenship so I shouldn't have trouble.

Exactly, this is the new way the idiot running the country wants to be remembered, with hate and distrust. I am so done with him. Just reading the truth turns my stomach. The word Impeach is mentioned often, I just hope the end is what it should be. His presidency is a joke, and I think he planned it that way all along using Russia to make sure he won so he could show the US what a "real White Man" can do to the country, not for the country..
