Stop! Another construction area?

Stop sign by Pat Z Anthony

Stop signs that remind us we are entering a construction area are almost everywhere lately. No complaints here. There are many areas in the USA that need to rebuild roads and more. It seems that we have witnessed construction on certain highways for decades. No clue if some of those roads will ever be complete! Are you living in an area that seems like it has been under construction for as long as you can remember?

Yes, here in W-S, it seems like one place or another is always being repaved or widened... I saw a photo some time back.. I think it was somewhere in Asia. An earthquake or some form of natural disaster caused a big hole on a road... and I mean big. Supposedly crews worked day and night for a week and were able to get the road back to new again... If only our own transportation departments would be as efficient.

In Italy the roads are all the time under construction, but always in bad shape and never completed. They are refurbishing our main road here. The works started two weeks ago, I think that in about 7 days the road will be completed.

@PatZAnthony Yes, it is frustrating, but it is necessary. I looked what they were doing here, they have replaced all the old gas pipes.

I-95 through the entire state of Georgia has been under construction for about the past 100 years. I don't think they will ever be finished! I've never been able to figure out why there is so much ongoing construction on that interstate in Georgia!

That is one of the places we were thinking about. Traveling from NC, through SC and GA to get to FL is a disaster and has always been @moffittjc We don't ever remember it not being a mess on 95!

@PatZAnthony You know, I would probably visit South and North Carolina more often if it wasn't for the mess on 95! Maybe Georgia is doing it on purpose so that less people visit the Carolinas. It could all be a big plot to keep Florida tourists stuck in Georgia! Or, it could be a plot of Georgia's to keep all the Carolina tourists from every going to Florida! haha

Many places in the USA are a mess @ShifaLK The photos often seen are only of the good areas. No one wants us to share the photos of the floods, ghettos, sinkholes here.

In my country, it is weird to have road construction during rainy days. I can smell something fishy with such projects.

We always wonder too if there is something odd b/c the roads are not done in what seems a reasonable time to us. And they often redo what they did the year before @Shavkat

@Shavkat Here we pay taxes specifically for the roads. However, they can't seem to keep up with the damage caused by the weather, etc.

Yes, Tennessee is always redoing roads, sometimes the same roads over and over. Now the Gov. wants to increase gas tax for road work.

What they keep doing in our area is changing the highway! They add lanes and then they take them away. They put a new onramp in one place and then move it to another place! And then they wonder why there are so many accidents! If the President thinks we need a wall down south, he needs to drive around the US and fix some of these other messes first!

No. I don't travel the interstate as much as I did some years ago not that I ever did it for a job but I usually went one place or another for church meeting and things like that. The roads nearest us finally got done a few years ago when they fixed the clover leaf area. I expected them to fix two exits where the cars coming onto the expressway did so within a few feet of the cars leaving the same area. We had another situation similar to that nearer our city and they rerouted one of the exits so that it was a longer distance from those coming onto the expressway. Unfortunately, and possibly because the other area was two main expressways meeting in the middle they weren't able to fix it in the same way. There are other stretches of 75 which mainly runs north to south through Michigan and down past Ohio that seems to be under construction somewhere along the way most years, but after a while one area will finally be done and you can tell they're working on a completely different area. Course, within a few years only, it sometimes seems, that it begins anew all over again. Maybe not, but it appears that way.
