We received a phone call a few minutes ago from my sister-in-law. It turns out she fell in the Wal-Mart parking lot trying to hold onto a shopping cart.
She had just finished shopping and was putting her purchases into the car when the cart started rolling away. When she took a step to grab the cart apparently her knee wouldn't hold her and down she went.
A lady stopped to help her and finished putting her purchases into her car. The woman wanted to call for an ambulance but my sister-in-law would let her.
We received a call from her instead. My husband is now on the way to Wal-Mart to pick her up and tae her to the emergency room.
She broke her wrist - this we know because there is a bone sticking through her skin. She has also hurt his right hip and thinks it might be broken.. I hope not.
I guess we will find out in a while what is going on. I am hoping she is not in too much pain.
I am worried about her. I'll update everyone when I know more.

I certainly hope you SIL is alright and did not break her hip. The wrist fracture is bad enough! I know what it's like to have a knee give out, it is very scary because you expect to step down and suddenly it's like someone pulled the ground away. I make sure to hang on to something whenever I'm up and about. Your SIL might consider taking a cane with her the next time she's out. I know it's saved me quite a few times!

Well, having had a fall earlier this year, I feel her pain. Luckily no bones were stickiing out of me. But your sister-in-law must have very brittle bones to have them break like that. I hope she recovers well.

It doesn't necessarily mean she has brittle bones, you hit the right way and a bone will break.

@BarBaraPrz she happened to fall on her hand in just the wrong way to snap one of the bones in her wrist. I hope she doesn't have brittle bones.

@AbbyGreenhill I think she hit the heel of her hand on the pavement when she fell.

@DWDavis No, the hip was not broken just really bruised up. She is still in the hospital for a few more days. She had her wrist operated on yesterday and is looking forward to moving on. She will be staying with us until she can safely use her right hand again.

Oh my, bone sticking thru skin is not a good sign. Did she have knee problems prior to the fall? I know I do and have to be careful. Hope she didn't break her hip... Good luck.

@AbbyGreenhill sorry to hear that. I understand it takes a long, long time to recover from a broken hip.

Ouch! Hope it's not her hip. That takes a lot of time to heal.

I´m so sorry! The parking lot floors should have a sort of floors where carts don´t slide away.

@HazySue Of course it would be the wrist she needs most. Isn't that always the way.

@PatZAnthony That's the way it happens. When I dislocated my thumb years and years ago it was the hand that I used the most.

Oh no! I hope she didn't break her hip. My grandmother did that two years ago and she is still having pains after all this time.

@HazySue it won't. She's going to have the pain for the rest of her life apparently. But thank you. And yes hope she didn't. And hope her wrist heals fast.
