Laid a Furry Friend to Rest Today

We'd had his ashes in the urn since last winter, sitting on the shelf in the office where he loved to spend so much time. Joe Cat had a good life. He seemed to most enjoy hanging out on my desk while I worked, or sleeping on the arm of my chair. I still miss him. We laid him to rest in the special part of the yard we've set aside for our furry family members who've crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I read a poem my wife found. It was a sad moment.

Good little fur person. This has been a deeply hard week for me and mine. Our Peter burro suddenly decided to lay down and not get up. Its not easy to let go of a family member.

I'm very sorry to learn of Peter's loss. No, it is never easy.

@DWDavis Thanks. Poor little Joe. When we took our dog to the Vet to get her surgery stitches out, I told the doc about Peter. His wise words: "You need an exit plan when you take on a larger fur person." I hated having to figure what to do with Pete once he was gone. That part really dug the pain in.

My wife and I decided it would be nice to have a special place for them. It is fenced off with a low white fence. There is a statue of St Francis of Assissi at the top, and two small figures, one of a dog sleeping and one of a cat sleeping, at each end.

It is sad when we lose a pet but it's nice that you have area where you can put them to rest. Do you have another cat? Or plans to get one?

We still have Tiger, who we got when we got Joe, and the two outdoor cats who live on our porch. We don't plan to adopt any more cats.

@JudyEv Tiger seeks out our company now. When Joe was around, Tiger wasn't all that personable except with my youngest son.

They scattered our cat Stoner's ashes on a property up in the mountains. Sounds like a sad day for you.

It brought back how much I miss him. He was my buddy for more than 12 years, from 8 weeks until he passed.

@teamfreak16 We only had our Jacques, a French Brittany, six years before cancer took him. We miss him terribly still. He had so much personality.

I'm really sorry for your loss. I love all my cats - the ones that left me and still with me. I know how it fell to loss one. It's like losing a family member as that's what my cats are to me.

I miss him, but I think our other cat, Tiger, misses him most. Tiger has started spending a lot more time wanting to be around me the way Joe used to.

Joe Cat, what a cool name, must have been a cool cat. Glad he was able to spend some more time with you before you laid him to rest. I wish we were able to do that for my buddy Tristan, finance's and all. I am glad he will be close by watching over you guys.

@DWDavis Awesome brother, animals make the best working partners even though we do all the work. Put your mind at ease for some reason. Keeps you calm and eye on what needs to be done. Amazing how that works.

Joe was a laid back, easy going cat. His favorite thing to do was take a nap near wherever I was working.

When I was a kid, I wondered why my mother never wanted us to have a pet. Now I think I understand. She was trying to shelter me and my sisters from the pain of losing them.

I have my two moggies in little urns. I shall be burying them in the garden, where they use to lie in the sun.
