He Left, Why Am I So Nervous?

Since November 2016 we have practically been joined at the hip, not through one hospital but two, not just a regular room but CICU. Three months worth of daily treatment, driving for miles and miles daily. Not one doctor but three doctors. Good news and then bad news. A wheelchair, to cane and now walking without any help. Today he gathered his metal detector and fishing pole, covered himself in 100 sunscreen and walked out the door. Why am I so nervous? After all he is adult.

I think I'd be nervous too, but good for him. What's CICU? I get the gist, not sure what the initials are for.

I don't think you'd be human if you weren't a bit worried about him. Hopefully he'll really enjoy being fully independent for a while. And hopefully you'll get used to it too.

Like you already said, you've been joined at the hip for so long. How long has he been walking without any help? Has it been weeks, days or a month or more. If it's not been all that long, I'd probably be nervous too. Did he take a cell phone with him, and is he just going for the day? You may want to edit this to show what the CICU means as many are asking. Rather than have to answer each one individually you could answer them here.

@andriaperry At least he came back before he got to tuckered out. I'm sure that small trip did his morale a world of good. You did well not trailing along after him.

About a week maybe 10 days without a cane and no he came back in 3 hours, so tired he went right to sleep. Yes always make him take the cell.

You're nervous because you care for your friend and have been through a lot together. You do not wish any harm to come to him.

Right now yes, he is okay and I have him back up and going but it can only get worst if the doctors do not get a plan going.

it is not that you are nervous, it is just that you care for him and you miss him when he is not around

You have given so much of yourself that it's natural to feel a little anxious when he's in a situation without you, even if if it is a good situation.

You are nervous because you feel he is your responsibility, and also because when something is constant, then stops, we miss it. Even a toothache can affect us that way when treated.

You've been there at his side for so long, you'll need to get used to him going off on his own. After a few successful solo trips, you'll start to be less nervous.

100 sunscreen? I didn't know they had SPF for that. Maybe 30? But good for him. He'll do fine.
