Imagine what it would be like to live next door to a field of lavender, the aroma waffling through the air scenting the breeze as it blew pass you. Oh the sweet smell of lavender. I think most of us know the use of lavender in so many of our beauty products. Did you know that lavender was first used about 2500 years ago by the Romans to scent their baths, beds, clothes and even their hair. Much like we do today. Lavender oil has it's own special medicinal uses such as, helping one to relax, as a sleep aid, soothing headaches, and heartburn. In Victorian times the proper young lady would douse a lace handkerchief with lavender oil and apply it to her temple to help relieve a headache.

I think that living next to a lavender field might be too much of a good thing

@jaboUK As everything, too much is never good. I remember that the lavender fields in the south of France almost gave me headache, too strong smell, especially in the late hours of the day.

We have a friend who has a lavender farm. It is so pretty when the fields are all in bloom.

I was fortunate to start some lavender from another garden last year. It has survived. I bought three more plants of a different variety that I need to get planted so they can work their magic here.

We don´t have Lavender Fields right by us and what we do have is a huge Field of Spearmint what the Moroccans call their "Hierbabuena" (good herb). You can smell the Spearmint from quite a distance its lovely. They do all that by hand sitting in the middle of the field and working each plant one by one. Such patience I have never seen.

@HazySue No, not from where I am standing a lot of times. It does reach you but not overpower you no at least not for me. Chewing gum flavour is more overpowering than that I would say.

Spearmint is also one of the mints that help tone down a headache. Does the aroma ever overpower?

@lovinangelsinstead21 I love the scent of lavender so I think I would enjoy it rather than be overpowered by it.

I sniff lavender oil every night to try to fall asleep. It is very relaxing. I took a bath in some epsoms the other night with lavender and tea tree, so nice.

That would be nice to live next door to a field of lavender, both for the beautiful scents and for the beautiful sight! Purple is one of my favorite colors, so having a sea of purple next door to me would be my little slice of heaven!

@HazySue a scene like that (and the wonderful scent) would surely be relaxing! I don't know that I'd ever get anything done if that were the case!

That's what I was thinking also. I would love to look out my window and see a sea of lavender flowers blooming and have their sweet scent blowing in my windows with the breeze.

I love the scent of lavender. But I don´t think I´d like to live near a field of lavender as the aroma is too overwhelming.

To help relieve a headache you are supposed to apply a little bit of lavender oil to the temples. It's supposed to help.

When I lived in south of France we had full fields where lavender was grown, the smell was so strong that almost gave headaches.

@HazySue It is true, I had the same feeling when I visited a Perfume factory in France. Too much is never good.

I'm imagining I'm with nature with lots of lavenders. Where the wind blows my hair and the stress I am having at the moment.

My daughter says it really does help her headaches. It seems to lessen their severity.
