When one door closes...

I suspect that we have all heard the rest of that which says "another opens." It usually comes up when there is a loss of some kind in one's life, such as divorce or a job loss.
In my case, it seems to be true, but I am the one closing the door on that part-time job at the wild bird supplies store. After working there for about a year and a half, I resigned. The very next week, I ran into a friend I met working on a film (never released) in Portland. He lives locally and produces a syndicated recreational vehicle show called "Rollin' On TV." I did one commercial for him a year or so ago and he tells me he has a couple coming up.
Additionally, I will audition for a casting call on what will be an 18 episode series produced locally as well. Without that part-time job, I have the time to do these fun acting things and they popped up as soon as I closed that door.
I have more time for table tennis and trips too.

It was strange that these followed on the heel of my decision so quickly.

Thanks Jill! It has been surprising and may come to little, but it is fun to do all this.

@JamesHxstatic - That is wonderful! I agree that when we let go of one thing, more opportunities open up. I'm busier than ever since I retired, and I've heard a lot of people say the same thing. Good luck with you acting! I have a friend who used to work as a salesman for Motorola. Now he is 75, retired, and looks sort of like Newt Gingrich. Jay Leno used to have him on his show a few years ago when Newt was making the news more often. Now, he sometimes has non-speaking roles in TV shows and movies as a doctor or lawyer walking in the background of a scene.

That is great that he gets a lot of work as an extra. Grimm was filmed in Portland, but is over now. I had a role there as a hand double in one episode.

@JamesHxstatic - It helps that our friend lives here in Orange county and he can get up to Los Angeles for auditions. I think it is cool that you got to work as a hand double.

Unfortunately, the producer of this thing lost the venue where he was holding auditions, but will "be in touch soon."

@JamesHxstatic To work a few hours a week can be pleasant and add a little extra, but you worked too many hours. It was a hard job.

Yes, I feel much better, knowing that I won't be called to help out unexpectedly.

Yes it is a very good thing. Anne has an art (quilting) class next weekend, so I will go visit my daughter in Portland since I don't have to work.

It was fun for a while but I was there for 19 months and it has changed recently, so not as much fun.

@JamesHxstatic Well, I would't term it "odd." Maybe God willed it so, knowing you deserved better. Good Luck!

That is the beauty in life - the choices we make and if they are well considered, they add value and variety to our lives.
I was rather slow in making a move and waited for circumstances to do that for me!
It was not easy to get away from my comfort zones! siva

Comfort zones are so... comforting that we are loathe to leave them.

The audition was postponed since they lost the space to do it in, but they will be in touch. I have learned more than I ever knew before in four guitar lessons so far.
