Gnome Hill

I have several huge pine trees in my back yard. They provide good shade in the afternoons but make it difficult to have a nice, grassy green lawn. There was absolutely no grass in the back yard when we bought this house.
Planting grass under the trees would be an exercise in futility. A garden wouldn’t work either as I would be digging through roots every time I tried to plant something.
I took the easy was out and hauled in a bunch of mulch. It’s piled up around the trees creating a little hill. I hauled in a bunch of flower pots and hired a couple of gnomes to take care of them.
I have a lot of shrubs, flowers, and vegetables growing in flower pots. The gnomes have trouble keeping up with them so I end up out there helping them most of the time.
My husband figured I needed a little extra help. He brought George, the turtle riding gnome, home on Sunday. I don’t know that he’ll get off his ride long enough to help with the weeds, but I thought he was cute so I said he could stay.

He'll be around for a while. MARILYN @Marilynda1225 said to make him the foreman. That might help.

I started collecting them a few years ago. I don't buy them myself but they make an easy gift for the boys and my husband to give me for Christmas and birthdays.

Thanks. I like to play with words and concepts. Everyone needs a laugh every now and then.

He's a cute helper. Maybe the turtle can eat the weeds.

I think you're right. At least they're not picking weeds.

George is keeping a look out for weeds and his brother is taking a nap after a hard day's work

George looks more like he's a boss rather than a worker but maybe he'll keep the other gnomes busy. What a great idea to use mulch and gnomes under your trees.
