Gnome Hill

George, my latest garden gnome

I have several huge pine trees in my back yard. They provide good shade in the afternoons but make it difficult to have a nice, grassy green lawn. There was absolutely no grass in the back yard when we bought this house. Planting grass under the trees would be an exercise in futility. A garden wouldn’t work either as I would be digging through roots every time I tried to plant something. I took the easy was out and hauled in a bunch of mulch. It’s piled up around the trees creating a little hill. I hauled in a bunch of flower pots and hired a couple of gnomes to take care of them. I have a lot of shrubs, flowers, and vegetables growing in flower pots. The gnomes have trouble keeping up with them so I end up out there helping them most of the time. My husband figured I needed a little extra help. He brought George, the turtle riding gnome, home on Sunday. I don’t know that he’ll get off his ride long enough to help with the weeds, but I thought he was cute so I said he could stay.

George is cute, even if he will be a slow helper.

He'll be around for a while. MARILYN @Marilynda1225 said to make him the foreman. That might help.

@amadeo That's important. I don't want them going on strike.

You can have your own mini Gnomesville now. I've written a few posts about Gnomesville which is situated not too far down the road.

I started collecting them a few years ago. I don't buy them myself but they make an easy gift for the boys and my husband to give me for Christmas and birthdays.

He's been out there for two days now. He hasn't done anything yet. Well, he's pointed out the weeds so I can pull them.

He's a cute helper. Maybe the turtle can eat the weeds.

Maybe I should offer them a weed salad. They can provide the weeds and I'll bring the dressing.

That's a great idea, you get your colour when you look out the windows, and you're keeping them employed!

I hadn't planned on collecting gnomes, but its an easy solution for the perpetual question, what do you want for Christmas, your birthday, etc. I don't want anymore knickknacks to dust in the house.

George looks more like he's a boss rather than a worker but maybe he'll keep the other gnomes busy. What a great idea to use mulch and gnomes under your trees.

A foreman. Now that's a good idea. Why didn't I think of that?
