While responding to someone's discussion do you mention their username first? I do,especially if their username is not a long one. What about you?

I do that only if there are several responses and it may not be clear to whose comment I'm responding. I'm the first here in this comment thread. I see no reason to mention your username. What I find silly is when members use 'sir' or 'madam' without knowing what the member in question really is.

There is no confusion really...this is a comment to you...no tag...means a comment to the responder.

@JolietJake commenting to jj automatically adds the tag as it is a comment to a comment...easy really.

I only mention username in comments. Not in responses. Because it is clear that the response is meant for the author of the post while comments need to be specified who is it directed to, to avoid confusion.

@Daljinder I like to mention the usernames of those whose discussions I'm responding to ano those to whose comments I'm commenting back.the only condition is that the username must not be too lengthy.

I do that only when there are several comments or responses in the box. It's essential to mention the user name in that case so that particular user may be notified

Yeah...I think while commenting on specific response no need to mention. But if we are in commenting loop, I mean more than one people interaction...we need to mention their username. Then only particular person could came to know that with whom we are texting...

@manikarnika I mention usernames for another reason.By mentioning their username I feel I am giving importance and showing respect to the user who gave me the opportunity to interact and who took pains to comment back on my responses or comment.

There seems no point in mentioning their username since it is self explanatory who the comment is directed to.

@Jessicalynnt I always do it.I think I should at least show respect to all those who read and responded to my posts or commented back on my responses. However I don't know whether it serves the purpose.

I only add a name if there might be some confusion about who I'm addressing my comment to.

No, there's no need to as a response is to the discussion starter so no confusion possible there. There's no need to tag at all really. If I was commenting on someones response it would show no tag so that is meant for the responder. If I was commenting on someones comment to a response the tag is automatically added.

@Mike197602 Of course, there is no need to mention usernames, nor is it mandatory, but I mention them only to show my respect and gratefulness to those who initiated the discussion or commented back on my responses. A user gives me the opportunity to interact and earn by starting a discussion.I respect their labour.

@else34 You don't show respect if you get the gender wrong and address women as men and vice versa. :-) So, better not use the username at all.

I don't do usually and on commenting it comes automatically. But mentioning the user name by tagging will help to get that person notified.
