How in the world do I only have $11.84 in my bank account.

United States

Oh that's right, responsibilities. At the beginning of the month, my credit card comes due, as well as my insurance. So that's $245.00 combined down the drain. I only had about $300.00 to start with. I bought myself some supper the other day, and that was $16.00. Of course that lasted me three days so not bad really. Then I had to go and get some medicine, about $8.00. So yeah, that's how I only have $11.84 in my account. That combined with the fact I only get about 16 hours a week. I scrap by, but just. I wish I could have told my childhood self that growing up is overrated.

Yes, life goes on. I'm not "broke", just nearly there. It's all in how you look at it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I let them increase I just don't charge more than I have. I pay off every card completely at the end of every monthly period. No exceptions.

@minx267 I don't use my cards a lot, but here lately I do retain a balance. Still, I pay more than the minimum, and don't charge to it if I can help it.

When I was in my early adulthood, I had maxed out a credit card and struggled to pay. I got that resolved, but won't make the same mistake again. It took me around eight years to finally get another credit card, and I am adamant about making payments on time. So much so, that the company has offered me credit line increases. I've always had to decline because my financial situation is worse than it was before, and I couldn't justify increasing the limit.

You need to plan for when you're really old. Having only that much money as a senior citizen could be life threatening.

I have a separate savings account that I do not touch and a 401K. The money i speak of here is my day to day spending / bills.

@AbbyGreenhill Oh, I have been robbed... By corporate America. My job wasn't giving me many hours. They are starting to fix that.. A little too late as I am trying to find alternate work. I've had enough of this company.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well, if my bank balanced was that low I would assume someone robbed me!

The money never lasts :( that's so sad. I am not a person who saves money, but I should do it, because I waste so much in stupid things. At least you have something haha

Saving money was drilled into me ever since I Was little. Even so, my early 20's saw some stupud mistakes. I am now approaching thirty, and have learned to save save save. Even so, you can only do so much on limited income. I am trying to remedy that, but it doesn't happen over night.

@luispas Good luck to you. I come from a family where the men save and the women spend spend spend. I am of the latter gender, but still try to act more like the former.

There are some good things about being an adult. But I'll admit that being an adult isn't easy.

Lol, being an adult has also a few advantages, you do not have to ask your mom anymore when you want to go to a party. At least your bank account is positive, bank overdrafts are expensive.

Oh, I've had an overdraft or two, but not in many many years. I learned my lesson quick on that.. Though it wasn't completely my fault as the bank I was at are swindlers.

I have $4.72 . All my bills are paid for this month I just need to pay my VISA and put money into savings.

I get paid weekly, so I'll be paid again on Monday night / tuesday morning. I have another couple of things to pay, but they are mid-month so I am okay until then. I just hate that I won't be able to deposit into savings this week.

On the positive side you were able to pay your bills and eat - some are not that fortunate. Hopefully you can find a way to manage things so that things are not so tight.

Yes, I was able to eat, which is good. I have a lot of savings, but I don't like to touch that if I can help it.

Time to find a wealthy partner! Lolz. But seriously, I am so grateful to have money in my bank account. It does make life a little bit less stressful.

I think I've been "put off" on partners altogether, atleast for the foreseeable future. Being married to a controlling _ _ _ does that to you. Though you do remind me of something my mom always said when I was growing up. She told me she wished she could find a wealthy man (also one, who consequently, was dying) to leave all of their money to her. She would have bought a big plot of land for a lot of dogs... I am used to having, atleast, $600.00 in my bank account at all times.

I agree, at least it was spent on bills and food. And you aren't overdrafted.

Over drafting is a pain! I had a bad experience with Bank of America in my young adulthood, and it was horrible. I do all I can NOT to over draft now.

@Courtlynn The one I have now won't either. I have wells fargo. If I start to overdraft it takes from my "way2save" account. I have 2 savings accounts with them.

Ouch. Gotta get some financial orders in place. lol. Honest to goodness, it is rare that my checking account ALONE falls under $10,000. I also have multiple savings and investment accounts. I tend to not like needing money in the short term, but rather having it all the time and plenty of it.
