I Have My Appointment

I got the call this afternoon from the surgeon's office and my appointment is June 21. Not too happy that it's so far out. I have a feeling all my book plans are gone to the wind as far as my participating in Art Street this year with my last book.
It will still be published, no problem there. My friend is already hitting the 40's chapters, so she should be finished soon.
However, I'll probably be in rehab in August. I can only hope that all the timing works out and I can still participate.
I also heard from my friend from the pool as I didn't make it this morning again. I did tell her I should be there tomorrow, no problem. I didn't make it this morning because I didn't get to sleep until 2 AM and I'm not going anywhere with only 2 hours sleep. I've been functioning pretty good though on 4 hours all day. I should sleep well tonight.
How is everyone doing? Thanks for reading.

@just4him We have only met one person who had this surgery and he was very happy with the results. Have you read the posts by @MarshaMusselman about her experience?

@PatZAnthony Yes, I have. It was very positive. I also know others who've had it and it all worked out for them. I'm hoping for the same results.

That is quite a wait for you to get your surgery done. I hope all goes well for you.
I am heading to bed soon. Lately I get about 7 hours of sleep and I manage just fine with that. Anything less and my muscles tighten and I am a bear.

@just4him oh wow, I guess I am more tired than I thought. I read that one completely wrong. Maybe I better hit the hay and rest up a bit.

@ElusiveButterfly My eyes always play tricks on me. I need to read things more than once sometimes just to read the word correctly. I wonder if it's because of the cataracts.

Sounds like something is going on. I haven't been able to catch up on everyone's posts lately so I don't know what is going on with you. Hope to soon. Good luck on whatever is a foot.

I pray that your surgery goes well and that you can still do the things you want to do. I never really get regular sleep...maybe a few hours here and there.

@MsBooklover Last night I didn't even wake before 6 AM and that is strange for me, but I knew I wasn't going to the pool, so no need to be up at 4. Usually I'm awake every 2 hours. I got six hours of straight sleep.

I am glad that you have your appointments, most people have good results from knee replacements.

The worst thing is waiting - if one could schedule someone for 'immediately' it would make life easier.

@just4him That's sort of the pattern when it comes to surgery/specialist/etc.

part two
Also, they get you up the same day if possible. At our hospital if the patients pain wasn't too bad they'd have them walk the halls a little bit. I wasn't able to do that not because I had too much pain, but I was dizzy from the pain pills which maybe I didn't even need, but didn't know it at that time.
My surgery was on a Monday early and both Tuesday and Wednesday, in the morning and the afternoon we had knee camp where we practiced the six exercises we would be doing at home several times per day. By that Friday the same week, I was already going to Physical Therapy, but my husband had to drive me there.
You should be able to do whatever is going on to promote your book unless it's the same week as your surgery. If you have help, you should be able to walk around with the walker.
I have some exercised I received that I've shared with a few people here. If you're interested, you can pm me your email.

@just4him Once you see your doctor later this month you'll get more info to prepare for the surgery and you may get some exercises to begin, or find out if your hospital does an informational meeting for those having surgeries.
AT our meeting at the hospital we got a book on things to expect and exercises to begin doing right away and that we'd be doing after surgery also. If your hospital doesn't have those meetings, and if your doctors office doesn't give them out either, I can send you an email of the ones we were given.

Maybe your surgeon won't be quite as busy as mine was. I made my appointment in July of last summer but they couldn't get me in until October and the surgery was another three months from then at the end of February. I'm guessing that the amount of time between when you called to make the appointment and when you actually have the appointment would possibly be about the same length of time as between the appointment and the surgery. Hopefully he's not as busy as they are around here.
In our area the we had to attend a meeting at the hospital to learn what to expect. There they gave us a booklet with exercises to begin before surgery and they would also continue after surgery. I firmly believe that if the patient does those both before and after the recovery should be much easier.
Will you have any kind of help at home after the surgery? You'll probably need to don the TED hose like I wore, I think they do that almost everywhere in the US. I was able to get mine on although I've had practice as I wear support hosier for my bad veins.
I don't believe I had any post-surgery pain, although my knee did ache quite a bit. It was totally different than the pain I had the last couple of years. Most of the people I've talked with said that if they didn't do the exercises then the results were slower and they didn't gain full use of the knee.
I didn't realize that your knees are bed too. Will you eventually need both of them done, Valerie?

I'm getting them both done at the same time. At least that is my plan. I still need to talk to the doctor. If what you say is true about the time factor, I would be getting the surgery right around my birthday in July. I hope it's sooner than that. I've never had TED hose or support hose, so it should be interesting getting them on.

@just4him TED hose is not as tight or confining as support hose can be, but you'll probably need some help with them. Is one of your boys going to stay with you once you leave the hospital, or will you be going to rehab for a bit until you can do it all on your own? I met someone after surgery that had a hip replacement and lived alone, so she was going to stay at a rehab place as she definitely needed help donning the Ted socks as you can pop the new joint out of the socket with a hip if you don't do things correctly.
I know of a few people that had both done at the same time, but the doctors in our area won't do it that way and they have to go closer to detroit or elsewhere in the state to get them both done at the same time.

@MarshaMusselman No, they won't be living with me. I really don't want to go to a rehab place after surgery. We'll see what happens.

If this is for your own good might as well bear it until you have become better @just4him maybe you need a plant to help you sleep better. I would recommend the snake plant.
