Worst Pot Roast Ever

Yesterday I made a pot roast in my slow cooker. I've never had a bad meal from the slow cooker. I'm also a very good cook. So I'm not sure what went wrong with the pot roast. I always put a bit of water in the slow cooker to help with the cooking and I always have good results, giving me nice moist delicious meals. Not yesterday. I'm going to blame it on the cut of meat. It was tough, dry for all the liquid in the slow cooker, which made no sense on why it was dried out and tough. I don't usually condone putting ketchup on pot roast or meatloaf though a lot of people do it and every member of my family does it. I think they like seeing my expression of them ruining my great dinner. However, I'm putting ketchup on my pot roast to try to get some moisture out of it. It's not working. It's still tough and dry. I won't waste it. I will eat all of it. Not much left, but there is no hope for getting it moist. I think it's the meat not the way I cooked it. Have you made a meal that turned out your worst ever? Thanks for reading.

Cuts of meat are so iffy now. Sometimes they look fine and as usual when you buy them but who knows once they are cooked? I am sure I have had that experience. I remember some very tough cuts of meat.

@Hatley I don't mind them on French fries, but not on fresh cooked meat.

@just4him most of my food isn't cooked by me - just heated up in the microwave or shop bought ready to eat

Sorry it didn't turn out as you expected. Many years ago, I made a cake for a party that didn't turn out and it embarrassed me.

I had one once that I tried to fix with frosting. It didn't work. It was still lopsided. I hope the cake still tasted good even if it didn't turn out as you hoped.

I am pretty sure it is the cut of meat, or may be the meat was not aged enough, sometimes the supermarkets do not take the time to age the beef and then it's hard as rock.

@just4him I am glad it was at least not as hard as rock, I had a piece of meat that nobody has been able to eat, I had to grind it and make meatballs.

I'm so sorry, but I'd blame it on the cut of meat, too. I tried making Peking duck. It was so bad that we threw it right into the trash and ordered Chinese. lol

No. I just bought it shortly after I moved here, so not even a year old yet. I've had success with everything else I cook in it.

Actually, that was the first time I got a bad cut of meat from them. Their meat is usually very good.

I'm inclined to agree, it must have been the cut of meat. It's not often a pot roast goes wrong!

That is strange that it came out tough...yep, better just blame the meat. My mom puts in too much water with whatever she cooks in the crock pot. I put no water unless I am making a stew....she thinks I am crazy LOL

Yeah, one of my biggest flops was black bean burgers. I think I didn't have all the water out of it. It was a mess. I ate them, but they were the stupidest looking burgers!

Maybe it was the cut of meat you used that didn't have much fat to give it moisture?
