Two hundred and forty one years. Happy birthday, America!
There's a song for everything and every song for a thing....or something like that. You all know songs like "God Bless America" (Kate Smith's version only for me, thank you), "America the Beautiful," and all of those. So, as an all-American birthday present, here's one you don't know.
This is by Joe Vitale. You don't know his name, but if you listen to classic rock I guaran-dang-tee you that you know a song of his. He co-wrote "Rocky Mountain Way" with Joe Walsh. He's been a member of Joe Walsh's band since back in the Barnstorm days, and he even worked with the Eagles on part of the The Long Run tour (he's on the Eagles Live album).
I met him in 1990, when he was playing drums for Crosby, Stills, and Nash. That was incredibly embarrassing (Nash was with him, walking across a midway field, and I recognized Joe immediately and completely ignored the two-time Hall of Famer!!). He's a good drummer and made a pretty good album in 1981 with Plantation Harbor. That's where you'll find this song.
And, at the end, because this song is a little "heavy," you'll hear Joe and Joe goofing off.
Happy birthday!

Thank you for this. I sure miss not being in my homeland the U.S. during the Fourth. At least we did have the US Embassy July 4 picnic on Saturday so that made me feel better. Hope you are having a great 4th.

I actually recognized his name, but couldn't remember from where. Now I know!

Good to see Stephen's name on the credits. They worked together quite a bit and he played and toured a lot with CSN if I'm not mistaken? Like the guitar riffs, Felder could play!!

He did; in fact, that's where I met Vitale. Never met him when I saw the Eagles or Walsh solo. The last person I expected to see, too....probably why I ignored Graham.
